Default War could further slow new cars

Looks like most automakers production will be slowing including Toyota and Lexus. Just last week Toyota had to shut their plants due to a cyber attack. Materials are getting harder and harder to come by so I believe the new car market will get even slimmer in the next few months which will drive prices even higher.

The article says that the effects of the war in Ukraine is only for European production. It will not affect Toyota and Lexus here in the USA, Canada and Japan. Car manufacturers like Volkswagen, Porsche, Audi, Mercedes will be affected. Not Toyota and Lexus, so you can relax. Toyota and Lexus are at full production right now over here in the Kentucky, Alabama and Ontario plants. They haven’t shut down production, so relax.

LexWannabe,
Did you read the article carefully? Where does it mention in the article that there will be cuts in production for Toyota and Lexus here in the USA and in Ontario, Canada? I know that Toyota makes cars in Russia and in parts of Europe. I read the article and it talks about production cuts being made in Europe and in Russia. It doesn’t say anything about production cuts made here in the USA or in Canada. Please Correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t this article talk about production cuts being made in Europe and in Russia because of the war in Russia?

It talks about material shortages that are effecting all manufacturers. It was bad enough with the chip shortages but with all countries refusing to by anything from Russia I think we would be a fool to assume this won’t effect cars.

You’re right. I’ve read in the automotive news publication that palladium that’s used for catalytic converters and that neon gas that’s used to make chips comes from Ukraine, so that might affect the ability to obtain these two items for global auto production. So yes, this might be a problem. I hope that the auto manufacturers can obtain these materials from other parts of the world if possible to lessen the burden of production problems.
