I think it looks high end and extra rich. ultra premium. R A N G E R O V E R
Lexus in the past has just modeled and copied after the corresponding Toyota product with a badge of the exact same shape and location. They're trying to differentiate their product image and move it more in line with premium competitors.
Having an L emblem where the T emblem would go is just lazy and has worked for decades but customers want their money to stand for products that stand out. business not as usual!
You either have a chrome L like H (honduh) or a plasticky cheap L like we have. the only fix without a total redesign of the L is to just spell it out.

Personally I'd debadge any model designation lettering so in the end you only have 5 letters.
If you have model letters, your car already looks like a scrabble board
if you have a european spec then you have 5 letters + the 6 for the model for a total of = 11 letters. DOUBLE JEOPARDY!

There's various ways to skin the "scrabble board" cat. I'm saying If you have just L E X U S and a debadge, you have 5 total letters.
I am guessing your ES still says "ES350" on the back and perhaps "F SPORT" which is even more letters than your "scrabble'd" L E X U S + ES350 nightmare. LOL
In other words how many letters total are on the back of your ES? This includes F Sport badging. LOL

it'll wear well and professionally. Lexus has teams of teams of people who research and approve the most granular details of every decision. a big one like this was not taken lightly. Besides range rover does it, why not. they're going for a big modern top of the line classy high end look.
It likely works better with larger/taller models with more real estate in back.
our trunk section where this would go is too tiny/thin/curved and not in your face enough to promote big bold lettering. this kind of design exercise is not for retrofitting and has to be baked into the recipe from the start.

Who knew my idea would be controversial LOL I mean Lexus is doing it likely on all models going forward as they get redesigned anyway so yeah...

I can't help each time when I see the script "KIA" I think it's Killed In Action. I think new logo is much better. Hyundai needs a new logo as that font looks so cheap IMHO.

Functionally, I guess carmakers have found a solution, but I always like it better when badges merge the metal for the whole name into one badge rather than fastening each letter on separately. I don't want an aging car a decade later where age and car washes have picked off one or two letters, leaving the whole thing looking like a snaggle-toothed hoopty. GM is great at doing stupid crap like this. I can't wait to see a decade from now what all those cars look like:

Since the 1st time I saw Lexus spelled out on the back of an NX (I think it was) I've liked it. To me it looks fresh and updated tasteful too. Nothing wrong with the L logo but a change is needed now and then.

Personally, the logo is much moe appealing. I was happy when Harley Davidson went towards an emblem.

Like any changes there will be those don't like it. Most Lexus fans won't let this one issue stops from buying one as there are so many other redeeming qualities.
