2023 ES - V6 to be replaced with a four-turbo?
#31
As rumors go, the 2023 RX is also rumored to be dropping the 3.5L in favor of that 2.4L turbo. They are also planning an RX 500h model that will likely be their performance model with an F-Sport badge. All rumors, but as long as we are speculating here, they may introduce an ES hybrid with more performance than the current 350 during the next model refresh. The waning interest in sedans may make that a unlikely prospect though…
Interesting note: they were testing some of these drivetrains in an ES mule. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LxYyoanNlp0

To slow the panic parade on this thread, though, the ES mule isn't a turbo. It sounds to my ears like a naturally aspirated 4-cylinder ES with the future RX's E-AWD rear end added to test that system.

Personally, I am a V6 guy....IMO, it is the best balance of power & efficiency overall (driving for 30 years)....the new turbo 4 sounds all good & fine, but it will never have the sound & smoothness of a V6, no matter how they tune it or how much sound deadening they put on the car.
Just my 2 cents.

Well it's not just the displacement. there were over 400 revisions. But it's all short-term glory anyway. The real news are EVs. All this gas stuff is poop water!
Honestly I'd like just a normal ordinary Camry/Accord sized EV that's not 60k. I'm hoping the chinese EV market hits strong here soon which will bring prices down. they're making some great cars.

V8's are all but illegal now. Soon V6's will join them in the car history books.

My last car was a 1.5 Accord. To me the ES 350 isn’t much faster in eco mode than my Accord was in eco… but maybe that’s because I’ve been driving my car gently because it isn’t broken in yet. So far it seems like the 3.5 doesn’t have much low end torque and really picks up when you give it gas. Of course the ES is faster than the Accord when you give it full throttle 😁

Once the engine breaks in I’ll probably always drive in normal mode and Sport + mode when I want to spice things up. Eco is too slow. Or maybe I’m just not giving it enough gas. I do about 90% city driving and am currently getting 16.9 - 17.5 mpg. How much do you think I’ll lose in regular mode?

What years, makes and models do the 5 people in your extended family own that have the 4 cylinder turbo engine?
