All rumors, but as long as we are speculating here, they may introduce an ES hybrid with more performance than the current 350 during the next model refresh. The waning interest in sedans may make that a unlikely prospect though…

Interesting note: they were testing some of these drivetrains in an ES mule. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LxYyoanNlp0
Thanks for the link. Informative viewing.

To slow the panic parade on this thread, though, the ES mule isn't a turbo. It sounds to my ears like a naturally aspirated 4-cylinder ES with the future RX's E-AWD rear end added to test that system.

Personally, I am a V6 guy....IMO, it is the best balance of power & efficiency overall (driving for 30 years)....the new turbo 4 sounds all good & fine, but it will never have the sound & smoothness of a V6, no matter how they tune it or how much sound deadening they put on the car.

Just my 2 cents.

Honestly I'd like just a normal ordinary Camry/Accord sized EV that's not 60k. I'm hoping the chinese EV market hits strong here soon which will bring prices down. they're making some great cars.
Given trade, labor and tech issues, I think a lot of us would balk at buying a Chinese car.

V8's are all but illegal now. Soon V6's will join them in the car history books.

What a shame indeed. I'm driving a Honda Accord rental this week with a 1.5l 4 cyl. Doesn't quite feel like the V6 in my ES.

My last car was a 1.5 Accord. To me the ES 350 isn’t much faster in eco mode than my Accord was in eco… but maybe that’s because I’ve been driving my car gently because it isn’t broken in yet. So far it seems like the 3.5 doesn’t have much low end torque and really picks up when you give it gas. Of course the ES is faster than the Accord when you give it full throttle 😁

I use SPORT mode only. You're probably right on ECO mode. I tried SPORT on this Accord but really felt no different.

Once the engine breaks in I’ll probably always drive in normal mode and Sport + mode when I want to spice things up. Eco is too slow. Or maybe I’m just not giving it enough gas. I do about 90% city driving and am currently getting 16.9 - 17.5 mpg. How much do you think I’ll lose in regular mode?

I suppose in stop and go it may make a difference but don't focus much on mpg at all. 40 mile daily commute round-trip so just not meaningful for me. What's meaningful for me is the driving experience and ECO or even NORMAL just doesn't do it for me.

That sounds about right to me, because the turbo is going to give you all it's got right away and then run out of breath when the naturally aspirated bigger engine is just entering its power band. I can tell you that Eco mode really saps the acceleration of the ES. You'll enjoy it a lot more when break-in is over and you feel free to start sampling the sugar.

While I don’t want to sacrifice too much mpg, I care more about the driving experience. Sport and Sport + modes are fun but I couldn’t deal with that stiff suspension and steering on a constant basis. I’ll just leave it in Normal mode so I can enjoy the V6 more 🙂

You’re absolutely right about that. I also feel the same way. I don’t care for and I don’t like the 4 cylinder turbo engine. Toyota and Lexus will have lots of issues and problems with the 4 cylinder turbo. Just wait and see.

The current generation 4cyl turbo has been around since 2015. There are 5 in my extended family, including two that I own and we drive every day. There are no issues to report in any of them.

What years, makes and models do the 5 people in your extended family own that have the 4 cylinder turbo engine?
