Default Auto stop/start disabled

Hey,

Just curious does the ES 350 have a button to disable auto stop/start?

Thanks!

Does it even have auto start stop? My engine never stops at traffic lights or other stops even in eco mode

There is no such feature on the ES 350, which I appreciate.

...and thank God for that. Most annoying feature ever.

Chances are that feature will on 8th gen. Furthermore Toyota is getting rid of V6 and they are getting the ball rolling already starting with the 2023 Highlander. Chances are the 8th gen ES will have 4 cylinder engine with turbo to boot. Toyota will refine the start/stop that in most circumstances you won't able to tell unlike the current implementation from some manufacturers.

Yea with a "mild hybrid" battery, start/stop of the engine can be seamless

I totally agree. Audi’s start/stop was seemless but when the actual car battery needed replacing the hassle began. Couldn’t just go to Autozone because the battery had to be newly coded into the computer. I was told this was because the computer had been tracking my old battery’s performance over time adjusting various systems such as start/stop, etc as the battery became weaker. It turns a $180 Autozone trip into job $ 600 dealership job. You either have to have the dealer do it or get a OBD11 dongle and buy credits to make the changes to the cars computer from your smart phone.

That is probably the route they will take but even on my hybrid it isn't always seamless but I am sure it will get better with more refinement. It is probably already too late for some people as it left a bad taste in their mouth. I remember my Mercedes from a few years ago it can be abrupt at times and it was annoying.

Reasons I got my ES 350 included: V6, no turbo, no automatic start/stop, CD player. I wanted all those attributes before I couldn't get them anymore. This makes me an old fart. Fortunately, I'm utterly shameless about that.

hehe. Nothing wrong with that. It will make current ES350 a future classic for the old school crowd. For many owners the ES350 will the vehicle to take to the grave as it is bullet proof mechanically.

From what I've seen Toyota has really refined the 2.4L turbo pretty good vs. the old poopoo turbo 4 8AR (which I had before).

The new Accord 2.0L 4 Turbo pops the doors off the old V6--takes the old V6 and tosses it in the garbage of automotive history. So I'd expect the new Toyota turbo 4s to do the same to the old grandpappy V6!

Personally though all ICE is doomed. I'm going professional EV next time!
