Default Rain sensor and intermittent wiper stalk?!

Hello!

I don't understand this at all...I have rain sensor or at least that should be a rain sensor but the wiper stalk doesn't have auto option. So what the fu**? Its business 300h bought in Europe.

I have intermittent wiper stalk of that I am sure of and if that isn't a rain sensor then what the hell is?!

it?

Top position is off and ONE CLICK down is rain sense auto.

Haha no. It doesn't say auto but it has logo for intermittent wiper action. That freakin puzzles me. It has rain sensor but it looks like a dead one. I know how rain sensor operates in IS 300h, when there is no rain its stopped and vice versa, but this acts like an old one intermittent wiper stalk.

Intermittent isn't the same as "auto" setting. Sounds like you have a European vehicle that's designed differently than U.S. cars with no "auto" setting but with intermittent. If you set the wipers to intermittent they will activate repeatedly according to the time interval you set. In my car if set to "auto" the wipers activate according to raindrops on the glass which are seen by a camera. This is rain sensing wipers...

Actually, the camera is not involved in the rain sensing operation of the rain-sensing wiper operation. Instead, rain sensing is accomplished with an optical sensor system located on the right side of the windshield camera housing. (See the "Raindrop sensor (vehicles with rain-sensing windshield wipers)" section in the Owner's Manual for a terse description and location of the optical sensor - [page number varies by model year] on page 158 of the 2019 ES 350 pdf version.)

A rain sensing optical sensor system relies upon the differences in index of refraction between air and water for its operation ( approximately 1.0 and 1.3 respectively for air and water). That difference will change the amount of emitted light (usually an infrared wavelength) reflected back to the optical sensor depending upon the absence of water or the presence (and amount) of water in the sensing area on the windshield.

My 2006 3-Series had rain-sensing wipers with a very simple intuitive and marked "auto" selector on the stalk. Auto? It senses. Not auto? No sensing. I too get confused as to what mode I'm currently in when I use the auto wipers.

You're clearly not informed on the index refraction like most of us are😂

Your particular European trim does not have auto sensing wipers. some smart cookie at Lexus corporate was nickel and dimming to either make it more affordable or bigger margins.

where I’m the ES is pricey as it’s optioned out. Like rear reclining seats, heated rear seats and trizone air.

Thats what I thought but why the **** is there a rain sensor on my windshield? Is there a possiblity to make it functional?!
