Are you sure about that. May I ask the source for that info? I ask because a family member has to replace a battery in a hybrid Camry about 8 years ago and that was the cost then. Prius batteries are down to $2200 now so I would have expected these larger batteries to see a drop as well. Also, isn’t the new ES battery Lithium Ion? I assume these newer batteries are more expensive than the older nickel metal hydride models.
2019-2020 has nickel metal hydride.
2021+ has Li-ion battery.
Just FYI that's not the case in Canada. I know most people in this thread are Yanks but FYI for others that read that. No Li-Ion in ES300h in Canada, not for 2021 or 2022. Likely due to the extreme cold the batteries can experience here.
Now with rising fuel cost I come to love my ES300h even more. I like hybrid so much that a few months ago I got my wife a hybrid of her own: Toyota Venza. Toyota is the king of reliability when it comes to hybrids. Regular fuel (Octane 87) in our area at $3.60 and it is projected to hit $5 with Ukraine situation in near future.
In countries where gas prices have already been high for the last 5 years, the v6 have very poor resale value. The hybrid commands at least 40% more than petrol only after 3 years of ownership.
My 2013 ES300h is the most reliable car I ever had with 0 issues after 9 years. Even if the resale value is a few hundred dollars less I am pretty sure that overall the cost of ownership is less than the ES350 including savings from gas, and maintenance like brake pads or an absence of serpentine belt.
All of those material savings ultimately translate to saving in time which is priceless. For some people time is money. There are only 24 hours in a day no matter how rich one is.

And it will take many years to recoup savings when buying a hybrid. It will take 6 to 10 years to translate savings when buying a hybrid. It makes no difference because it comes out the same. You either pay more up front for a hybrid or pay higher gas price. It all comes out the same at the end.
I beg to differ. It depends on the hybrid vehicle. Take the current RAV4 Hybrid for example the price of hybrid is just about $1,200 more compare to non-hybrid version. Depending on how many miles you drive in a given year you can break even between 2-4 years. It's quicker now with rising fuel price. Things like maintenance requires downtime such as scheduling appointment, dropping vehicle off, waiting for mechanic to fix , etc. Those hours add up. Even pumping fuel may take a few minutes but it adds up to hours over the life of the vehicle.
I personally don’t care to own a hybrid Lexus. They are underpowered with a 4 cylinder engine and they have much less horsepower than the 6 cylinder engine. The engine is anemic. Period.

The GS450h and RX450h has more punch and more horsepower than their petrol only models.
And for the ES, the hybrid is a more appropriate drivetrain.
