Default Buying My Leased es350

Hello Folks,

I am considering purchasing my 19 es350. It has been a superb car and I really enjoy it. It has just 29k miles and runs flawlessly. Might I ask the following:

Does anyone have any thoughts about an extended warranty, and if so, which product is the most attractive/cost effective? Beyond this, any advice for perhaps getting a better cash purchase price (although at 25k it's hard to argue price given the immediate market)

Thanks. I am 56 and plan to keep this gem until my kids are out or college or I drop dead (whichever comes first!)

Look at Mr. Glass half full here brimming with positivity! On a serious note the ES is known for its solid reliability so I wouldn't buy the extended warranty as it will be most likely be a waste. If you have any doubts at all just put away a small amount of money each month as an added insurance policy. You will be paying yourself and end up using it as a nice down payment for the next vehicle.

Most folks will tell you you're wasting your $ on an extended warranty. Statistically that must be the case because the carriers don't lose $ on those offerings. My own experience - My wife's 17 RX with 70K miles and my 19 ES with 51K miles have had no warranty claims to date. ZERO.

lol… it’s solid reliability until you have to spend $5,000 to $9,000 to replace or fix the infotainment system or the computers and sensors in this vehicle. The extended warranty is not a waste.

How many have needed replacement on the gen 6, which most are well out of warranty by now.

You sound just like the typical finance guy at the stealership. LOL

I'm only going to speak on the extended warranty and I'm in the camp of it's not needed. I bought a first generation Acura TLX back in 2015 and the finance guy tried his best to sell me that extended warranty. NOT A SINGLE electrical issue during my time of ownership of nearly 7 years. The transmission is a different story, but that was a well document issue with the car, as well as many other cars with the same transmission.

When I bought my 2022 new, I did not opt for extended warranty. The price wasn't terrible, but I really couldn't see the use of it. If it is needed in the future *knock on wood*, then I can say I regret it. However, I regret nothing and used that same amount of money they were asking for extended warranty to get a full front PPF as well as windshield protection which has twice so far, saved my paint and windshield from pretty significant impact.

That being said, I haven't heard of any electronics really becoming an issue. Sure cars nowadays have hundreds of electronics in them, but again, this is a Lexus. A company known for perfecting old tech before moving onto new, and I'm confident in the electronics that Toyota/Lexus has put into my car. Not one hiccup so far.

I bought an extended warranty once, on a CPO Acura RL. It was a second-year car, and it had already been extensively publicized that they'd had severe teething pains in the first year with a bunch of experimental tech (to the point where the reliability problems got more attention in the C/D long-term test than the car did).

They sold me the $2,000 warranty — full coverage for the next 4 years and 65,000 miles from that point — for $1,000, an offer they made because they weren't going to budge on the price of the car. I ended up using it once, for a $300 repair. The peace of mind did have some psychological value, and I won't say I was cheated. But would I pay it again? Naturally, no.

The ES is now a fourth-year design. Car Care Nut on YouTube, and Consumer Reports surveys, have both confirmed it's been mostly trouble-free. Most of its few bugs (transmissions shift roughness, lack of rear stereo sound) have been addressed by running changes. Both powertrains are extensively proven and legendarily reliable. The infotainment tech is the opposite of new. I can't see it as likely that anyone buying an extended warranty on this car can logically expect a positive return on investment, and you can assume the Lexus people who are pricing it made sure that they agree.

These kind of messages gives me a heartache. I have a 2016 Audi Q5 and have spent about 20k usd (yes the number is right) in repairs out of warranty. Even in the recent visit, I got a huge bill and I asked them for the necessary changes. Now I have the bang and olufsen though which is classy )
I've been looking to move into the es 350 2023. Hanging on to that. Essentially I'm hoping the audi will hang in with me until I can get the 350 as my primary car. I'll put the audi to the second car category once the 350 arrives.

I'd sell it while it was still functional.

I wouldn't tell an Audi owner they're wasting $ on an extended warranty

As a former 3IS owner, I can confirm a lot of those amps, computers, LED modules, etc. have failed (check the 3IS sub) and now solidly in the "common problem" category despite the classic "Lexus reliability" drivetrains are reliable--it's the gizmos and doo-dads you have to be potentially concerned about. For the longest time, Lexus used old school electronics but slowly they're having to add more and more stuff to compete with "the big" german boys. And thus we're here. And to think Lexus does not compete yet with all the german electronics. We have things like apple car play and think we're fancy? try again. Try german fiber optic networks and 48v systems. and this was 10 years ago!

Lexus is trying to get there... slowly. "mo money mo problems" as they say.

I hope 7ES is reliable (electronically) long term. but don't be surprised if some electronics konk out later on in life and dealer surprises you with a four figure bill as I've seen on the 3IS subs. some of us may be resourceful and source used parts and try to DIY. but most don't have that experience and instead rely on a dealer's advice.

Same here. I'd sell it ASAP before anything else goes wrong. Especially after $20k already!

I was mightily tempted to get an A4 or A6 before I got my ES. Experiences like yours at the 5-6 year mark are the biggest reason I didn't. Thanks for sharing that and reassuring me that I get something back in exchange for forfeiting some of that German mojo (which I do miss).
