Default L/Certified cost

My lease is up next month and I will be buying the car and looking into whether I want to add warranty at that time. When I leased the vehicle the L/Certified cost was $1395 and now I was quoted $1995 for the 2 additional years to total 6. This can be extended up to 11 years total with unlimited miles. Has anyone else here been quoted to add the L/Certified status.

Honestly If the car has been problem free and has had no issues I’d even question getting an extended warranty on a lexus, which is a reliable brand.
I realize this isn’t your question but hopefully someone else can chime in for you

The ES is the most dependable luxury sedan on the market. Take the $ you would spend on a warranty and put it in a savings account just in case.

I wouldn’t worry about it. Statically speaking, the chances of you having a repair/repairs that end up totaling the cost of the warranty is slim. Lexus knows this and so do other warranty companies. This is why they can afford to pay like half the warranty cost in commission because they know you most likely won’t even have repairs half the cost of the warranty.

To put the same thought another way, no warranty merchant has ever gone out of business because they knowingly charged less up front than they'd have to pay out later.

I have an 2001 LS 430UL which has needed no major repairs and a 2008 Tundra that had 1 but listed as recall under warranty. I did at 147000 after 13 years on Tundra replaced the alternator and did it myself for $130 and 6 hours labor. That would have been outside any extended warranty I might have purchased anyway. I guess it is all about insurance but the odds are with me from previous expderience.
