I was able to remove the plate just fine. Pretty much the same process as debadging a car.

I used to hear the metal shaking from a reasonable sounding music with bass sometimes. All that is gone. Resonance in the car is miles different. If anyone has the time and $60 and have a little couple of hours project I would say go for it. You won’t be disappointed.

Where you got that from? Amazon?

I know you said that it improved certain aspects of the vehicle (door is more solid, speakers sound better, etc), but did you find the road/wind noise was reduced by this effort? I have measured between 67-73db in my car on the hwy, doing about 120km/hr (75mph). Would like that number to go down.

I had a long 2 hr drive this morning. As mentioned above it doesn’t change db per se. It’s more the resonance that the vehicle makes now it’s different. It’s better, solid, there’s no metal vibration anymore which I used to hear from my stereo. I mean sure, sound waves penetrating the doors have to go through the additional kilmat material so there might be less noice but hard for me to tell really.

In general most manufacturers are cutting cost where they can, and weight. This is one of the results of that. E46 above hit the nail on the head.

Do you have the laminated windows in your front doors? If not, installing those plus deadening them and something like ResoNix Fiber Mat 25 will drastically eliminate wind and road noise.

I have a much better solution. Turn up the audio volume and make sure it's something you enjoy listening to.

I'd much rather be able to talk to my passengers and enjoy the car ride without having to blast songs in my car.

Can you install laminated windows post production? or if your model doesn't come with it preinstalled you are out of luck?

I'm not 100% sure, as I haven't come across someone who has, but I can't imagine they made 2 different doors just so they can have one support laminated and the other regular tempered. The only thing I can think of you'd need as well would be a new motor. But all this can be verified by crosschecking the parts.

In a 2019 thread "2019 ES driver side window area wind noise", over several posts cstone3636 discusses getting front wind noise diagnosed and fixed. See 2019 ES driver side window area wind noise post #79 for the fix summary which involved replacing the front window non-laminated glass with laminated (sometimes misnomered as acoustic) glass.

So, yes, you can replace production tempered glass front windows with laminated glass front windows post production. Not saying it will be an inexpensive replacement but it is possible and the work should be pretty much the same as the work involved in replacing a broken front window of either type.

Yes my F-Sport has laminated front windows, both driver and passengers. Rears aren't. I will look into this Fiber Mat stuff and consider doing it in the spring - thank you. It is full on winter here in Alberta, Canada right now!
