I think the best thing for me is to just continue saving for retirement and invest my money… then when I’m retired I can buy an exotic or super car as a retirement gift. So many today don’t plan for retirement and blow the money they could have saved and invested on things like cars. I don’t want that to be me. I would prefer to only buy one more daily driver (if I have to) before retirement age.
jerky trans from day one. Most of my driving is freeway so I've learned to live with it. Keep saving you're smart.

I was looking at a 2022 4 series coupe with 6900 miles at my local Sewell Lexus dealer. They started the offer at 40,000 and I was able to get them up to 41,500 but the more I thought about it it just didn’t make sense because it wasn’t the color that I really wanted. It was a dark gray and I wanted white so I didn’t want to settle and take a higher interest-rate. I have about $12,000 in equity in my car so I’m in a good place and just couldn’t see trading out for a color that wasn’t what I really wanted. Also BMWs depreciate so quickly because of the over inflated asking price where the ES 350 is actually one of the better value holding cars but they all depreciate like you said it’s just the nature of cars unless an exotic or classic. I bought all of my Lexus cars at this dealership and have a great relationship with my sales person so I typically get a decent deal.

The gen 6 Lexus ES with the 6 speed was as smooth as silk... The 8 speed ... not so much. But as Mike states: you learn to live with it. It really is poor IMO...

I just started a thread about this because it doesn’t make any sense why the 2022 is so smooth when it’s using the same transmission. I seen this complaint a lot when I first joined, but I have never experienced it so I wanted to see if I’m just some anomaly or if all the new ones are smoother.

Dang, that sucks. I was afraid to get an ES at first because of some complaints about the tranny, but my car and the dealership ES that I test drove transmission was buttery smooth. I guess you got one of the stubborn ones 😬

Yeah, I’ll continue to save. I’ll just have to exercise some self control because I’m a car fanatic 🤪

I don’t blame you. If I’m spending that much on a car, I gotta have it in the color I want. I’ve been in situations like that before. Yeah, interest rates are crazy right now. 1.9% is great. Mine is 2.49%, which was the best Lexus was offering at the time. I’m glad I got mine when I did because the interest rates kept creeping up after that. I also got my car at Sewell and noticed they added a $1,500 protection package charge to all their cars after I got mine. Glad I dodged that bullet!

Alright trade completed. If anyone is looking for a 2019 ES350 that was well kept and garaged its whole life (27k miles) it will probably be listed at Porsche Bethesda soon (if they don't wholesale it away).

An alternative to losing big money on a trade-in is selling your car yourself. I had a 2013 in pristine condition with 18k on the clock. Looking for a 2019 with all the newer safety features, I asked for a number on a trade. The dealer offered $17k... I said no thanks... I placed it for sale on the "for sale" forum on the Club Lexus web site and sold it in two days for $22k. A nice $5000.00 difference. The dealer agreed to do a "courtesy trade" where I trade in the car and the buyer, who is there with me, buys it from the dealer in the same transaction. Not for everyone but considerable difference in money.

They used to call this “an in and out” in Texas. Some places would charge like $500 flat fee to do the paperwork and for their increased exposure to liability.
