Default F Sport Battery Lasting Only Two Years

I purchased the car Oct '18, so under the 4 year warranty they replaced the battery Jan 2021 @13K miles, one dead cell.

Last week, the car didn't turn over on first crank, and then died in the parking lot of Home Depot. Fortunately it eventually started, so I went right over to Lexus.

Dead cell again, and even though the car is no longer under the manufacturers warranty (ended Oct '22) the battery was covered under its two year warranty.

Yes, I'm in Florida, but the car is garaged during daytime hours. Two years is not a very long life for a "premium battery."

Very unfortunate...thanks for sharing.

Is the F-Sport battery the same PN as the standard ES battery? If so, what PN?

Was the dead cell the same cell on both batteries? Were they dry or low on distilled water?

Two years of use is very unusual...I'd expect 7 or 8 years. Maybe they have a manufacturing/quality problem. It would be helpful to know more.

Purchased my FSport in Dec-18 and battery still seems fine. I'd normally replace it at the four year mark but I think I'll wing it through the winter. It started right up a few weeks ago at close to 0°.

I guess the heat is tougher on them than the cold.

My 2018 ES 350 had two “bad” batteries. Dealer replaced the first one.

There are many topics on this in the GEN6 but I eventually wasn’t willing to get stuck somewhere so I bought an Interstate AGM battery and never had another issue.

Now with my 2022 ES 300h I am hoping I won’t have this issue.

My understanding is that there are only a couple of battery manufacturers sold under many brands.

I think it's just the luck of the draw... Some batteries last 6-7 years and some only two. This is what warranties are for. I do agree that heat is a killer vs. cold.

The two w/o from 21 and 23, at 13000 and 23000 miles. Part number appears to be 00544. I don't know the OEM. Past American cars there was an option for a heavy duty batt and alternator.

Speculation here, but rumor has it that if you always garage your vehicle, and lock it in the garage, the car is always "looking" for the key fob, which can run the battery down sooner than normal.

So maybe try leaving it unlocked in the locked garage?

Just a guess.

What could the garage possibly have to do with anything?

I think that's probably right. My daughter has an eight month old Acura and the battery just had to be replaced.

My point was poorly worded. The garage has nothing to do with it except keeping the vehicle secure.

If you have the ability to secure the vehicle (while it's not locked) like in a garage, try not locking it.

I'm a firm believer in buying OEM "premium batteries" due to their higher quality and being designed for that particular model. Over the last 20 years, I've purchased multiple Nissan and Volvo batteries from the dealer, and all got 7 to 8 years service here in coastal South Carolina. Some cars are garaged and others, not. And all cars are always locked whether in the garage or not.
My current Lexus GS350 battery was purchased at the dealer in September 2016. I'd be very upset with Lexus if my OEM battery lost a cell after 2 years.

I haven't visited the Gen6 forum, but am frequenting the Gen7 forum because I'm interested in the 2023 ES300H. I'd like to research issues prior to buying a new one. I can't help but wonder if Lexus has a quality issue (supplier issue), or whether the battery/alternator design for the ES may come up short to expected Lexus quality standards.

It was never locked in the garage. Hopefully, it's as safe a neighborhood as I've heard it to be.

It keeps the car out of excessive FL heat during the afternoon. The garage isn't air conditioned, but it's nowhere near being outside on a blazing bright day with temps in the 90's.
