Anyone replace the wood trim on doors and dash? Change steering wheel?

I agree...sadly, though, a lot of the modern "open pore wood" looks like garbage. The black "wood" (of whatever it is) in the ES looks like something you'd find at IKEA. I get that tastes change and the auto makers love to jump on the collective band wagon, but the ES black open pore on everything but the palamino trim is dreadful. The option to have trim like the previous version would be nice for this eof us who like it.
Out of curiousity, I did look online briefly for wood trim kits for the ES and didn't find much at all. Are there any decent sites out there?

The black open pore “wood” is advertised as wood on Lexus marketing materials. Is this stuff even really wood? Because it sure looks like plastic, and I paid extra for it. My biggest and close to only problem with the car.

Part of the reason I sold my Jag was because I was paranoid something very expensive was going to break. The Jag dealer is ~2.5 hrs away. Now I drive a Lexus and don't worry about repairs. I only had minor issues with my Jag to be honest, rear parking sensor, trim piece inside, etc. Mine was the XJR and had the supercharger, it was a fun car but I was paranoid about it breaking so did not have peace of mind owning it. It was a summer car.

Agreed on the plastic look of the open pore. My opinion, of course, but I much prefer the 'lacquered' sheen look. Doesn't matter if it's not real wood cuz it's sort of in it's own shiny display case.

I have a 2019 Ultra Lux with bamboo trim. My 2013 had rosewood or some other name wood. To me this authentic wood trim makes the car. Include the steering wheel which also is real wood and the trim is complete. The appearance, in my opinion, is of a luxury vehicle beyond what I paid for the car in the first place.

I've been wondering this as well. I can't imagine they would call it wood if it isn't, but it seems weird to put in wood and make it look like plastic.

It could be what amounts to particle board, which would obviously be nothing special. The furniture business refers to that material -- basically glued sawdust -- as "engineered wood."

I think it is real wood, but they obviously put a sealer on it. It is a bit too shiny and does give a plasticky look. A more matte finish sealer would have been better.

It's a veneer wood, like a 1mm thick piece of wood glued on a piece of plastic. It's a common implementation in cars. Back in the 80s when wood was thick it would crack over time.
