Extended warranty on new ES 350–Worth it?
I just purchased a 2023 ES 350 Ultra luxury. Dealer wants $2700 for 10yr 100,000 mile extended warranty. I usually keep my Lexus’ 8-10 years. My major concern is all the electronics (100+ onboard computers). Is it worth it?

My personal opinion: No. An extended warranty is an insurance policy. All insurance policies are priced so that, on average, the underwriter takes in more money than it pays out. The ES is justly famous for having very few failures in the first 100,000 miles. Simply put, the extended warranty is a bad bet.

Do you drive 10K miles or less per year so that it wouldn't expire until the ten year limit? If so, perhaps it's worth it but not for $2,700. Those contracts are typically negotiable.

Never bought an extended warranty for any car. When I bought my 2015 TLX new, that finance guy was extremely pushy about the extended warranty. In 100k miles I never had one issue that the extended warranty would've covered. When I bought my 22 ES300h, I told the finance girl I wasn't interested in extended warranty. She skipped all the way to the reject button immediately, no questions asked (Though she did skim over her spiel, since it was required). Budgeting and a trusted mechanic has been my extended warranty.

Thank you to all that actually answered the question. If we want to talk necessity, complaining about the post surely isn't.
I am of the camp that says the extended warranty is not needed. Save your money for some maintenance items.

I'd say buy it.
The most important part to buy or not is that how long you plan to keep the car. Most people who told you not to they don't normally keep the car for 10 years or 100K+ miles. You do.
At 40K, the "ultrasonic sensors/system" went bad out of nowhere on my ES, lights on dash were dancing (car is still drivable, but I took a loaner, why not, took it to 2 road trips, was on Holidays time LOL). It took Lexus 1 month to replace (3.5 weeks waiting for the part from Japan or China..., 2021 covid time and Holidays time, it sucks), that will cost you few thousands to replace if out of warranty.
Like you said there are hundreds more of chips/electronic parts on the car. Any of them can go wrong without any real reason, they're just "electronic". All previous gen ESs doesn't have this many "tech" as this current gen, so no-one really know.

I'd say buy it.

12 years (bought used), 115,000 miles
I paid for a CPO warranty on the second one, partly because it was cut to half price as the only price concession I could get on the car. The car was a very high-tech vehicle with leading-edge features, some of which attracted negative publicity for going wrong. I still didn't get my money's worth out of the warranty.
July1988 also accidentally makes an important point about what an extended warranty cannot do for you. When his electronic sensor went bad, he could not immediately get it fixed and they could not immediately get the parts, forcing him to drive a loaner. This would have been true whether he had an extended warranty or not. The price was reduced by the presence of a warranty, but the disablement was not. A warranty is not a magic shield against trouble. It is only an insurance policy priced to cover its cost, with a profit left over for the issuer.

Your call. It's like faking a punt on fourth down. If you needed the extended warranty you looked good. If not it was a waste. If it gives you piece of mind then go ahead, although you should negotiate the price lower.
I have not had one on a Lexus, but have had extended warranties on MDXs and Mercedes, and have either used them to some extent or received partial refund when I traded the car. Also, I assume the Lexus warranty would be transferable in a private sale, which would be a plus in such a sale.
As an aside, on the Mercedes and MDX forums, there are dealers that will sell manufacturer's extended warranties online at a substantial savings, but I have not seen such offers on this forum. I recently used such a quote to lower the cost of an extended CPO warranty by 35% on the 20 GLS 450 I bought in November.

As Lexus Basic Warranty coverage is for 48 months or 50,000 miles and The Powertrain Warranty is for 72 months or 70,000 miles, if at 5th year or 55K mile his Lexus has an issue with the computers or at 80K mile his transmission goes bad, he can smile and call insurance to town his car to Lexus, get a loaner, and wait for everything to be fixed with brand new parts. All for 75 cents a day, maybe less. Did I mentions "a peace of mind" everyday for the next 10 years?
Or he can be smart like everyone else and save 75 cents per day and pray EVERY DAY that nothing will happens for the next 10 years after the Lexus Warranty He can also wait 2 years and buy for a tiny bit cheaper though...
I'd never recommend it if he drives 2K mile per year and plan to keep it for few years before he getting a Benz or a Tesla or a Porche

My 2013 Lexus 300h is now 10 years old with 88k miles. As a hybrid it has a lot of complicated systems including electronics. I never had any issues or repairs. Not even brake pads. The hybrid system had 8 years warranty but I did not use it at all. I would never buy a warranty for a Lexus ES.
On another subject, I hear my friends talking about thousand of dollars in repairs on their BMWs and when I mention that I never had any repair on my Lexus they respond that driving a BMW is a privilege. Every time I hear this nonsense it makes my day!

My 2020 ES350 UL was the first car I purchased in Decades that I didn't buy an extended warranty. Honestly my previous model cars never were able to use the warranty and considering the reliability of this car and the costs of that warranty I decided to skip it. Granted I did just retire and have low miles on the car. These are all factors you need to think about!
