Lexus Adds Limited Production ES 330 SportDesign Edition for 2004

02/11/2004 Torrance, CA

Lexus will add a SportDesign Edition to the 2004 ES 330 for the first time since it began offering the option on its GS and IS luxury sport sedans the past two years. The limited production ES 330 SportDesign Edition will begin arriving in dealerships next month.

Updated for 2004 with a larger, more powerful engine, the well-appointed ES 330 receives the sporty yet sophisticated SportDesign treatment to compliment its luxurious character. The competent steering, suspension and brakes provide a solid driving platform that's further enhanced by the optional Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS).

Three exterior colors are available including Black Onyx, and exclusive to
ES SportDesign, Thundercloud Metallic and Graphite Gray Pearl. Special channeled-spoke 16-inch wheels are provided in a complementary metallic gray finish. SportDesign logos on the fenders and black pearl emblems out back finish the exterior detail.

The standard leather interior comes in either light charcoal or black, and features matching SportDesign logo floor mats. Black birds-eye maple wood trim on the dashboard, center console, doors, steering wheel and shift **** complete the rich interior look.

All 2004 ES 330s are comprehensively equipped with luxury amenities such as 10-way power front seats with memory for the driver's side, dual-zone automatic climate control and premium sound system, among many others. A long list of safety features such as multi-stage driver and front passenger airbags, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and a strong body structure with crumple zones provide peace of mind. Regular production options such as the Mark Levinson audio system, Lexus DVD navigation and rain-sensing wipers continue to be available with SportDesign.

The standard 2004 ES 330 was recently selected by IntelliChoice as Best Overall Value of the Year in the near luxury class. Approximately 4,000 of the ES 330 SportDesign Editions will be produced with a starting premium of just $600 above the current ES 330 base price of $31,725.

IMO, those rims make that car look dated and old already. Change those rims, lower, tint, more modding and that would be one badass car.

1sicklex, when I read your initial post, I was intrigued thinking there might be a sexier version of the ES coming on the market. Then I saw the pic you posted. I have to agree, what a disappointment. The wheels immediately stood out as a turn off to me and stopped the thinking of trading my 2002 ES300 for the new model.

From a distance, the wheels resemble those from the '99-'01 Acura TL, but look far better than that. I like the wheels more than from the '02-'03 ES

I have to say that the black interior on black bird's-eye maple wood trim truly looks outstanding. Who cannot like it?

Those were my thoughts exactly! A neighbor of mine has a TL of that vintage, and that was the first thing to come to mind when I saw the SportDesign wheels. And yes, the wood leather combo looks awesome--I was out car shopping with a friend, and the Jag X-Type we test drove had that combo. (Yes, he ended up getting the X-Type, even though I tried in vain to convince him that the IS, 3-Series, G35, and A4 were better picks )

Thumbs up

The new wood is awesome looking indeed.
And the mesh wheels don't look bad at all in this picture on lexus.com (although I agree that in the real-life pictures posted by 1SICKLEX they look cheap and outdated for some reason). Thundercloud Metallic looks very nice in the same pic too.

I think the reason the first pics turned me off, was because of the color.. It did look old and outdated.. The silver looks much better, and more refined.. I have never been a big fan of gold or similar colored wheels.. We have so many blue WRX's here in Japan with gold wheels, that I feel makes it look cheap..

As for wheels, I like chrome...

AusLex300, I have to agree as to why the first pics offered were a turn off. The later pics in this thread with the wheels in chrome are more enticing. I may have to reconsider the possibility of a trade.
