Default E-Shifter issue on 4th and D(drive)

I have 2002 Lexus ES300.
My car is driving fined with (D)DRIVE, but once I shift the gear to
(4) and shift back to (D)Drive the shifter shift didn't returned back to (D)DRIVE; the rpm is at 4000 on (4) gear on 35mph. I have to put the car in park and turn off the engine and the car work normal on (D) drvie. Anybody have this problem before?

The car have 227k

Thanks

What you are saying is the car comes out of overdrive but does not go back into overdrive. This is done electronically. I take it that the no. 4 light in the dash remains lit? There most likely is a switch under the shift console that needs to be checked for proper operation.

Yes that is overdrive. Do you have the picture of the switch under the shift console?

Check with a Lexus Dealer as that looks like it would be a Dealer only item. Maybe you could find one in a salvage yard.

Default Cheap and easy fix!

I could not find the broken piece of the switch so I improvised. I have some leftover water tubing from an ice maker install. I cut a 3/4 inch piece, flattened out one end with a pair of pliers then slid it on in place of the missing piece. I shoved it on temporarily to see how long it stays (and works). If it does I’ll glue it in place. It’s 92 degrees today but that hasn’t made it too flexible. I went back and forth between D and 4 and it worked every time. With $6 gas I need that overdrive selection!

Kind of hard to see.

Hard to see.
