Angry Gas Door

The gas door won't open. I hear clicking when I push the release button but the door won't pop open. Any help fellas? I don't even have enough gas to get to the dealer

I just tried the manual release. The door still didn't pop open but I was able to (while holding the release lever down) get the door open with my fingers. Thank god I have small fingers! Well at least I can gas her up now. Time for a trip to the dealer.

It is most likely that door spring (small piece of metal attached to a plastic piece) is broken. It happened to me. I bought the part from lexus for 10 dollars and fixed it myself after one of techs showed me how to do it. If you take it to dealer they can fix it in less than 5 minutes if they have the part in stock. I am sure you are not the only one with this problem. It is a poor design for a luxury car like this.

Yep. That was the problem. Actually the spring had gone missing. Not sure how that happened. Anyway, the dealer took care of it in about 10 minutes.

Default Picture Request

Sorry to bring this thread back to life but it happened again. The spring came off today while I was closing the gas door after filling up. This time, however, I recovered the spring. Problem is I don't know how exactly to put it back. Can some one post a picture?

Thx

try PMing Savon. He might not visit often, but he may get an e-mail telling him he got a PM from this site.

You cant put the spring back. It has got separated (broken) from plastic part. you need to order a new one (it is called gas door spring assembly). let the lexus dealer take care of it. For the future, when you are closing the gas door make sure the plastic wirelike thing attached to gas tank cap doesnt go between the spring.

Silly question - how does this part "break"? is it rusting/corrosion or just seem to be a weak point that it wears on when used over and over? Would be good information to know in case we can "fix" part of the issue.

The wire attached to the filler cap can catch on it.
