Congrats, so you are getting what battery tech exactly?
You started off listing the new iron based ones that are popular (I'm using them) for safety and discharge capability but it sounds like it's still not out for the Y yet?
Any reason you didn't opt for the top model?
He bought perfect. The Performance is a taste faster, but has less range. Any of these cars is already turbo fast! IMO, they even feel faster than they may be, due to the "right now" torque. It never gets old.
As he points out, the taller, lower profile rubber rides pretty hard, and is prone to expensive pot hole repairs. No to mention poorer tire wear and more cost to replace.
The Model Y will be the #1 selling vehicle in the world this year, of any kind. It is already the #1 by revenue.
Yeah I wouldn't bother with a performance if the only difference was a artificial paywall and software lockdown. Hardware differences sure but not if it's just a money making separation.....
I hope someone figures out how to defeat the OTA updates or it will never be possible to unlock the hardware you paid for.
You have to realize that even ICE vehicles "limit" power through software. An example is the 2018 Civic Si I bought, which had stock 205 HP, which was mostly overhead. To get to 255, I had to buy a tuner and the tune ($600) from One Step Performance that unlocks the ECU, uploads the tune and reflashes the ECU, changing boost from max 18 psi to 23 psi (plus other air/fuel mapping). The upside? I now had 255 to the wheels where before I had 187 to the wheels. The downside? I destroyed my warranty. Even if I flashed back to stock, Honda would know if they investigated. I knew people on the CivicX forum who had warranty claims denied because of tuning

Yeah but you can still make the decision with your car what you want to do. With normal cars there are also term matching tunes that retain the warranty if that is a concern.
With this we will see what happens but as is owners do not get to make decisions with their own hardware.....

I get what you are saying, but I'm willing to make that sacrifice. I can understand if others aren't
Yes, it will probably be my primary vehicle when I get it, either my wife or son will use the Polestar (I'm betting my son will convince his mom he "needs it more") and we will continue to use the Ioniq EV as well until we turn it over in November. My wife is actually very comfortable with the Ioniq, so she will probably switch from the Sienna back to the Ioniq (my son uses the Ioniq right now to go to college)
holy ish, forgot about the love bus... you'll have 5 vehicles until november. baller...

Oh yeah, there's going to be too many cars in the yard until the Ioniq is gone. Maybe I should kick out the kids? I'm starting to catch up with Striker LOL
How come your is showing seat up to 7 person? Did you upgrade the seat from 5 to 7?
No, I chose the 5 seating. What you are seeing is the "option" for having 7 seats. The last two seats in the back would be way to cramped for adults, I would rather just have the cargo space instead

Do the presence of the extra seats interfere with cargo space?
Do the presence of the extra seats interfere with cargo space?
Yes, if they are in use. But if not, you can fold them and you regain the cargo space. But honestly those seats are such a tight fit that they are not worth it unless you want to punish someone

Ah well that's good, flat folding when not in use at least? I usually like to avoid extra seats if the area doesn't fold flat anymore
Mostly flat then, I would probably buy the 3rd row since the car is too small for serious items anyway and it barely cuts into the load floor it looks like.....
I'm just shocked you picked a Y over a 3 to be honest, an SUV is new for you right?

You will be surprised how much room it has in the cargo space. I'll do a side by side pic with my Sienna when it arrives. Of course the Sienna is wider and a bit longer and can haul 3 more people.
Haha nothing to be shocked about. I decided I wanted something a bit more roomy, and higher up riding. When I sat in my friends I knew it was the vehicle for me. And yes, it's the first SUV I've owned, although I've driven several SUV's. Also this will be the family trip car when we go to SoCal. I'm still going to hold on to the Sienna should we need to haul more people or do the Home depot/Lowes runs
EDIT
Oh yeah I forgot to mention, you can lift the floor, and there's more storage space underneath. And it has a pretty spacious "Frunk"
