Thanks. At some point, I'm probably going to switch off with my wife so I can spend more time with the Ioniq, another extremely underrated car

Wow, my 2013 Sienna with nearly 100k miles has a more expensive premium than my 2023 Model Y

It's also more expensive than my daughters Bolt. The Ioniq 5 is the most expensive, at $1906. Insurance companies seem to reward you by bleeding you instead of rewarding you for being a loyal customer with a spotless driving record

As a follow up to this, they raised my premium $1046.56 for six months. No accidents, no tickets, nothing, they just thanked me for being a good customer by bending me over with a big smile on their faces

ouch. my ioniq 5 was LESS than my santa fe.
your sienna probably went up a lot because it's lacking in a lot of modern safety features.

Well, they were modern in 2013 🤣. If I were to ever total our van or it was stolen etc, they would probably give me no more than $10k for it, so that premium for full coverage is insane. I'm going to talk to my agent on Monday so he can explain to me why State Farm has lost their minds! Anyway, I'm going to drop coverage down to liability with uninsured motorist as we hardly drive the Sienna, maybe three times a year.

It seems insurance companies want to get us to drop coverage as many are fleeing California, which I almost don't blame them. Auto thefts and break-ins are rampant, although good luck stealing our Tesla, Polestar and Ioniq. If you ever go to SF or Oakland (or live there), the advice is to leave your car unlocked to prevent your windows from being broken. Remember the days they hung horse thieves? Nevermind, another subject for another time 😂

Isn't State Harm one of the most expensive insurance companies?

No, I think Farmers is. I was with progressive and moved to State Farm because they were lower. In fact they were the lowest quote out of several companies. There is a Canadian company that was lower, but they do everything manually, they wanted me to take pictures of all my cars, VIN numbers etc, don't have 24/7 claims support, so all the work I had to do wasn't worth the effort to save a few hundred dollars

I had State Farm since I started driving and finally had enough with their ridiculous increases. Problem was USAA quoted me the same for the last five years so I never switched until last year. I switched to Erie and now pay half of what I was paying with State Farm.

As for San Fran I have a guy that moved there last year and I asked if it was as bad as people say and he said it is. He saw guys two cars in front of him one day around 2pm that jumped out of the car and tried to steal wheels off a car parked on the side of the road in broad daylight. Ridiculous so how they used to deal with horse thieves…hmm I better not say anything either.

I'll check if Erie does business in California, many smaller companies don't.

Even my social activist niece is fed up lol 🤣. Last week my wife and kids were heading down to Oakland to take a Ferry ride to SF. My niece told her to bring the Tesla... get this, because it has Sentry and will catch people breaking into my car! I told my wife "so I can watch people breaking into my car?" She ended up taking the Sienna, when thieves see it they will probably just feel sorry for us 🤣🤣

LOL never thought about it that way with sentry. As for your niece, well I have to laugh at people like her. What did they think would happen with that kind of mentality? You reap what you sow in a sense but people like her will never learn even when it happens to them so here we are.

Yeah, watching someone break into your car is not exactly what I envisioned using Sentry 😄. As for any further social commentary, I'll leave that for another forum 😂

just saw a piece showing that thieves in nyc rob everywhere to make money, come to florida to spend the money but don't dare rob in florida because they'll end up in prison. gee, what a concept. there's a reason places like singapore and the middle east don't have a lot of crime, and i'm good with it!

amirza, what does your niece attribute the rampant crime to? not ENOUGH handouts?

we live in Silicon Valley, so reasonably close to San Francisco, and as a point of comparison some of our current State Farm premiums are below. All policies are full coverage, high limit, low deductible, and the numbers are for six month premiums. We do have other cars and insure other things with them so that probably helps.

2021 Land Rover Defender - $599 (85K MSRP)
2022 F150 Lightning EV - $528 (93K MSRP)
2018 Lexus RX - $500 (60K MSRP)
2016 Lexus RX - $500 (60K MSRP)
