we live in Silicon Valley, so reasonably close to San Francisco, and as a point of comparison some of our current State Farm premiums are below. All policies are full coverage, high limit, low deductible, and the numbers are for six month premiums. We do have other cars and insure other things with them so that probably helps.
What's your secret? My Sienna is double your Lightning, and it's 11 years old. The cheapest premium is my daughter's Bolt, around $883. They are completely bleeding me, clean records, no accidents, and I live nowhere near SF. This is just madness
We are currently experiencing an atmospheric river and winds up to 25 miles an hour here in the Bay Area, and I decided to head to the office. What could go wrong?

That's an everyday average wind speed around here.

maybe because you have kid(s) at home?
maybe you live in a sketchy neighborhood?
maybe they've read your CL posts about street racing

Two children under 25 is probably the main reason I suspect. Our neighborhood has low crime, although I do live a few miles away from East SJ, which can be sketchy.
Haven't done any street racing lately, so there goes that theory 🤣
OK, some bragging. I was coming home from work today. I quickly maneuvered around a line of cars that were making a right turn at the light, and dashed to get through the intersection quickly before the light turns, or I would be stuck there for awhile. That caught the attention of a guy in an M340i. OK, so it's an M Performance and not an M, but so what. He quickly caught up with me, than at the light pulled from behind me to my left. Now we were side by side, and at first I didn't really think much about it, but than curiosity began to creep in. If I was in my Polestar, he would be dead meat, but how would my Model Y do? I was itching to find out, but debating if I should try and find out or not. The right lane I was in ends and merges into the left lane, so the clear winner would be the one who made it across before the lanes merge. He was slightly ahead of me, so I would need instant torque to work in my favor here.
Light turned green, and it wasn't even close. I left him several car lengths behind me, and 100 percent he was trying to beat me before the lanes merge, he made a couple of false starts, and I heard his engine revving and some tire squeal when the light turned. I have to say I was a little surprised, I expected to get off the line faster, but wasn't sure if I was going to pull it off. But I did . BTW, speed got no more than 70, after that I slowed back down

I don't think I would try this against an M
That was SW17LS next you. He’s never been in a race and didn’t know it was a race. He was just cruising on his way to the car wash.

SW17LS would be in an i7, and would have 200 hp plus over me, so I wouldn't even bother . Once EV adoption reaches a certain point, stop light to stop light racing won't be fun anymore, because the playing field will be leveled. The fun will be gone forever, and the next competition would be on who gets the best range
A Palisade tried to run me from a light earlier in the week. First light we got caught in he took off and I accelerated at my normal ~50% throttle. Second light we got stuck at I destroyed him to 65 then chilled. It's a wide open 55 mph road so I typically cruise at 65 anyway

It's a pure lack of acceptance that they can get owned by an EV. What I find hilarious is that the majority of drivers that try to take me on at stop lights are cars like Accords, Civics, and even Corollas. This morning it was an Avalon, he was trying to ride my tail on the Freeway onramp, I put my foot about half throttle, and left him behind. He just wouldn't give up, poor guy
best quote: "x3's are driven by strippers" (or something like that)
When I want to be overwhelmed by technical details and the occasional gorilla chest pounding joke, Savagegeese. When I want to be entertained, gjeebs. Never fails to deliver
On another note, today was drive like a maniac day in the Bay area. Several cars were zig zagging on the freeway making dangerous maneuvers in traffic. When I got off the freeway, people were aggressively driving in slow traffic conditions, tail hugging and beeping their horns if you leave a less than a foot between you and the car in front of you. Two fender benders from all the aggressive driving.
I was trying to figure out what's going on, then I remembered, the 49ers lost, mixed with hangovers. Not a good combination
