Elon doesn't add anything to earnings calls so yea keep him off. Rest of the crew can give the same generic, boring non committal answers that every other company does.

I'm wondering if Tesla should stop doing all public presentations like battery day, demonstrating Optimus etc. turns out other companies are going frame by frame and picking out every bit of info they can. And then trying to copy it.
Earnings calls are supposed to be boring.

As far as all the other events that Tesla hosts, those are all part of Tesla's culture. You learn about new and upcoming tech Tesla is currently working on. Although Elon is not a public speaker, I think he's fine in these events, he can be himself, and people watch them specifically to see Elon. Non Tesla enthusiasts probably don't care much for these events

I do like it when Elon leads a battery day or other specific presentation and then viewers get confused when he deep dives into the science

I think that's part of the charm though. It's an event for nerds, not investors

Some people seem to take any criticism of Elon Musk very personally.

He's not Jesus Christ.

I hardly agree with everything Musk says...
But his company employs about 25K workers in Fremont, CA. GM and NUMMI failed. NUMMI had about 6K workers at its peak. When NUMMI shuttered, the local economy suffered; homes were lost, support companies suffered. When Elon started up the plant, he took out full page ads in the local newspaper encouraging ex-NUMMI workers to apply.

It's great to see an American company leading the world once again. I salute that and support that. I will be buying my 2nd Tesla from Giga Fremont this year and my 4th vehicle made there overall.

i predict it's only a matter of time before fremont is closed.

especially with politicians there calling for a new $50/hr minimum wage.

There is no way Fremont would ever close, unless Tesla went out of business. That plant is a freaking city in itself. Tesla invested Billions. It employs 22,000 people. The whole city of Fremont would collapse, literally overnight.

Minimum wage is $16 in California, and it took decades and lots of fights to get to that amount. No way it will ever be $50/hr, no matter how much politicians pretend to support it

I'll take that bet

So I appear to be doomed to the position of being your permanent fact checker. Regardless, I'm up to the job

There really isn't a push from politicians in the plural for a $50 minimum wage. ONE senate candidate has floated it out, and she's not going to get elected but even if she did there's no general push for that. So it doesn't really represent the consensus position at all. It came up in the senate debate this week and neither of the two who are likely to get elected support it.

Minimum wage here varies by county and city. Where I live the minimum wage is higher than the state minimum.

You do, however, have to look at all of this in context. The cost of living here is high and well over $100,000 is considered to be low income in much of the Bay Area. A four person household living where we live that makes about 130K per year is considered low income. So there's nuance and context behind all of the talking points you might see on the news.

That is a complete fluster cluck compared to Tesla's other factories. I know it was unavoidable since it was originally a Toyota/GM plant but still, long term Tesla should build a new one to replace it.

Giga Austin and all the other Tesla plants were all built from the ground up, this was Nummi when I moved to the Bay area in 2001:

That's it., what you see. Tesla began to expand it after 2010, which was the only option. In the Bay Area, land is pretty scarce, so unless they tear the whole thing down and rebuild, I don't see any other options for rebuilding without causing major disruptions

Giga Fremont continues to grow; more and more buildings get the Tesla sign. Even the infamous Solyndra buildings are now Tesla. No jokes please!
Tesla Lathrop makes battery packs and MegaPacks; it goes on and on.
Additionally, the software HQ is in nearby Palo Alto.

The car factory will continue to minimize labor costs via automation.

How they modernized that dump is beyond me. I know it was an empty shell but the layout is anti efficient.

SpaceX has done this what is taking Tesla so long.

SpaceX is privately owned, whereas Tesla is publicly run, things work differently, everything is scrutinized by the SEC and needs board and share holder approval. I don't know how it works, but it's completely different for public companies

An example of how public companies operate differently, when I worked for our parent company which is private, IT didn't have to disclose security breaches. After one of our startups went public and I moved to that company, we now have to disclose each and every security breach, even a small one like someone falling for a phishing email, even if we catch it. Not reporting a breach can lead to a fine, or even jail.

Also, every executive has to disclose in advance if they are buying or selling any company shares. Also shares being granted to them, compensation etc is all publicly disclosed. You basically have no privacy in the matter
