i suspect the entire supercharger network is NOT profitable. building more locations just increases capital expense outlay AND losses from it.
plus i wouldn't be surprised if canning it in NYC locations is because doing anything there is a nightmare and hugely expensive.

First time seeing a Tesla storage location. It's about 5 minutes from the local Tesla Service Center (which already has tons of cars parked there).

Yes and it's insane you actually think this. From Grok:
No, Tesla is not getting rid of the Supercharger network completely. Elon Musk stated on X that Tesla still plans to grow the Supercharger network, albeit at a slower pace for new locations. The focus will be more on maintaining 100% uptime and expanding existing locations. This indicates an intention to continue and improve the network, rather than eliminate it. Additionally, Tesla has committed to making at least 7,500 chargers available for all EVs by the end of 2024, as part of the Biden administration's $7.5 billion EV charging initiative. This further reinforces Tesla's commitment to the Supercharger network and its role in supporting electric vehicle adoption.
Grok is awesome BTW.

You suspect? Or you could look at the latest financial statement something a person does when they care about being factual.

....I want to add that your response will be to discredit Grok you'll call it stupid or something along those lines. This is not a serious thread I vote to have it shut down.

@spwolf I totally understand your frustration. I'll try not to speak as a spoiled Californian. The way I see things, there are two factions...one that thinks Elon is an absolute infallible genius, he knows what we know not and has planned everything out, we are just all too blind to see it. He single handedly is the brains, and like God, everything will be laid clear and we will all feel like fools. Then there is the faction that think he's an emotionally unhinged lunatic with way too much money. He throws things at the wall to see what sticks, and Tesla's success is through devoted fan base fanatics. I take the view in the middle, he's a smart guy who's built a few successful companies, but he's a flawed human who has made a ton of mistakes and has an ego the size of Texas.

I have no idea what it costs to plan out and build supercharger sites, but it couldn't be cheap. I have no idea if they make or lose money. My last trip I was averaging .44 cents per kWh...I don't see how that make Tesla money. I'm only speculating, if someone has numbers please post them. As far as new site build-outs, would you spend money in Nebraska where there are probably about 100 Tesla's, or in a place like California where there are millions of Tesla's and the state subsidizes you with tax credits? How much tax credits does the state of NY give Tesla for build-outs?

With the US and EU governments funding unending wars with our tax dollars, I can see all those subsidies drying up really quickly, which may be one reason for Tesla slowing down on SC expansion. I have no proof to back this up, but just saying Elon is doing this out of Ego again doesn't add up to me. Prove me wrong, and I'll say no more

Good points above.

Another thing that comes to mind is when did it become Teslas obligation to build out the country's infrastructure.

If there is money in EV charging, it looks wide open for investors and entrepreneurs to step up.

But they won't if there is no profit to be made. 🤓

Elon has an ego the size of Texas but didn't build the charging network because ego? Do I have that right?

Texas is a very big state.

Maybe something smaller like the size of South Carolina. Lol

I see Elon & Tesla bobbing and weaving like a pro boxer Muhammad Ali.

Watch him give everyone the - rope a dope-. Lol

High speed and hitting a parked car is my guess.
Glad it saved them
They will be buying another Tesla.

Dojo continues to evolve, AFAIK we don't have any idea how much it contributes to overall computer power at Tesla.
