I was going to say the same. I think it's very possible the finished product will be VERY close to this. And I like the concept of the front slim light bar as depicted. I hope it makes it, but I doubt it will since it's not on the new 3.

Tesla is like the Toyota world of EVs. Keep the same design for years and only make minor changes between generations.

great strategy for reliability and cost savings.

In fact the exact opposite. Toyota has a 4-6 year model change cadence (sometimes longer) and makes few running changes during a given year. Typically there is one refresh for a product generation. Tesla makes changes weekly or even daily while keeping appearance mostly the same. And then there is OTA software updates something Toyota barely does.

Tesla safety systems are always improving via software updates Toyota almost never does this, the car you bought in 2016 has the same safety features today. A Tesla you bought in 2016 has many of the latest safety systems such as pre-collision airbag deployment. For software updates in general every Tesla except the original roadster get still get them.

Then there is general body structure, Toyota has been using the same basic unibody stampings and assembly since the early 60's.

The two companies could not be more different.

I’m referring to mechanical, chassis, body battery and interior changes. Ie hardware.

Software changes to infotainment and ECUs are minor or medium depending on how important the feature to you as a driver is.

But yes, software is a big feature of a Tesla. Like Apple providing iOS updates to 6 year old phones.

Tesla changes body structure, general electrical, inverters, motors, battery packs etc. on the fly this have been documented and talked about by Munro Live and others. Tesla only has model years because of regulations in reality there is no such thing for a Tesla.

Is there a running change log of what those changes are?

Drive a 2018 Model 3, than drive a 2021 Model 3. Now drive a 2024 Model 3. Almost not even the same cars. The differences are not even incremental. They continue to refine everything from the ride quality, efficiency, to build quality. I don't want to make this a Tesla vs Toyota discussion, so I'll leave my criticisms off Toyota for another day, I'll just say that 1 year in Tesla years is 10 years in Toyota years.

One criticism of Tesla I have is they badly need to refresh the Model X, or discontinue it

Vertical integration. When legacy auto needs a change they go to their supplier the whole process can take years when Tesla needs a change they do it all in house often the necessary people are in the same building.

One thing Tesla can do better is "new" model perception this is bank. Tweak the styling here and there call it all new people are easily fooled by this.

I hope Tesla doesn't cancel the X but it seems inevitable.

Our new M3P has 95% new parts vs our 2018 Mid Range. It's a different car.
I highly suggest driving one if you have any interest or are just curious.

The OTA updates list changes, of course. But you would need to access Bill of Material revisions, assembly changes and ECOs (Engineering Change Orders).

YoY changes are blurred (almost meaningless) as compared to traditional car companies.

Yea I drove a 2021 MY and didn’t like how it rode. Jitter and harsh for a family car. Will go drive another one off the lot and see what has changed in the tuning.

why not liking the light bar in the front? i think they look great if done right and not too big (thick).

'hoping beyond hope'... haha... maybe make it thin more like the ambient lighting inside, and maybe even allow it to be turned on/off.

i doubt it... i could see tesla using what they've learned from cybertruck and applying it to a new x.

the new model 3 is vastly better than the old one, especially in ride quality and being quieter. the interior is a lot nicer too.

Steer by wire and 48 volt? I highly doubt it.

48 volt may be an update they should try to move to, but also they need to update the styling just a little bit. They have done some updates to the rear, but from the front I can't really tell between an early X and 2024 unless I see the headlights or the tires. There has been a lot of technical changes over the years:
