did you have the model y glass roof tinted? i can't imagine how hot the car gets inside with all that non opening glass.
We took our Sienna because we had 7 people and all their luggage (mostly females), so couldn't take the Y, which only fits 5 adults. Thankfully the Sienna has very good dual AC, as yesterday the temperature hit 109 F! But it's really showing it's age, I think the engine mounts are going bad. It also seemed to be struggling a bit on the steep inclines. I'll have to get it checked when I get home.
An interesting note...I only saw one Ioniq 5 between Tahoe and Nevada. Tons of Tesla's! Lots of Model Y and 3's, and a few Model S and X. Nevada is not very EV friendly, unless you drive a Tesla
The car has a "Cabin overheat protection" mode that automatically comes on (cools) when the temperature goes up above a specific number.
Also the glass roofs on Tesla's do an amazing job of not letting in a lot of heat despite all the "non opening glass".
I was also going to mention this. The glass roof is tinted and does a good job of keeping the heat out. The sun can be directly overhead and you can look directly at it. Also cabin overheat protection will automatically keep the cabin cool. You can also precool the cabin, just turn on climate control 10 minutes before you leave and you will have a cool cabin.
I saw a lot of Tesla's on the mountain roads between Tahoe and Nevada driving with no issues in 109 F temps doing 70 mph on the winding roads
They had something similar in the past, but in the fight to reduce phantom drain (which is still a bit of a problem) they switched it off. I'd love to be able to have it turn on when the car hits x degrees.
The original reason for the overheat protection was to protect the non-automotive grade screens in early Teslas. Now it's a great feature for hot days.
Tesla books record revenue of $24.9 billion with margin declining after price cuts
Tesla posted an all-time high quarterly revenue, but operating margin dropped to 9.6%
Revenue from Tesla’s core automotive business rose 46% year-over-year to $21.27 billion, about a 6.5% increase sequentially.
Tesla’s research and development costs rose to $943 million (from $771 million in the first quarter) with the company writing in a shareholder deck that it is focused on “being at the forefront of AI development,” and has started production of its Dojo “training computers.”
Tesla reported earnings after the bell, showing a record for quarterly revenue but lower margins thanks to price cuts and incentives. The stock price is essentially unchanged in after-hours trading.
Revenue: $24.93 billion, versus $24.47 billion expected according to Refinitiv.
Earnings: 91 cents per share adjusted, versus 82 cents per share expected as per Refinitiv.
Net income (GAAP) was $2.70 billion, an increase of 20% from last year. Operating income, however, was off 3% from the year-ago quarter at $2.40 billion
The other thing is that Musk suggested on the earnings call that they were in active discussions about licensing FSD to other manufacturers. If that happens, there’s significant revenue and margin upside.
Traders hate Tesla earnings calls they never get what they want to hear. Fundamentals are incredibly strong, Berlin and Texas are still at the beginning of amortizing. Cybertruck will be volume early next year. Tesla energy is growing quickly this continues to be mostly ignored. FSD who knows when it will be "solved" but it will be. Elon is right this could be the greatest increase in wealth generation in history.
Reminds me of when Elon said the Model Y would become the best selling car of any kind no one believed him.
