The other thing I wanted to mention is look at cars like Corvette, Mustang GT, Demon etc. They sell in small numbers, but they are profitable. Only reason cars like the Demon are being discontinued is because regulations are making them harder to continue to produce and sell, otherwise they would live forever.
A better example is probably the Toyota Highlander. They only sold 31,019 vehicles. But I'm assuming it's a very profitable vehicle for Toyota, so although most Toyota buyers are choosing a RAV4, Toyota has no plans to discontinue it.
Model X is still highly profitable to Tesla. Someone who is looking for a more refined drive, air suspension etc and has $90k to spare would buy it over a Model Y. I would actually have bought an X, but the model Y gives me everything I need... plus I'm cheap as hell 🤣🤣
Toyota only sold 31k Highlanders? I am pretty sure that's incorrect. Probably 31k Highlanders in 1 month. I am pretty sure Toyota sells over 100k possibly over 200k Highlanders per year. They are everywhere.
I get your point though, selling 20-30k units is not bad for a high priced product. Imo though, the model x had no competition when it was released and remained without any competition for years. I would have thought they would have sold more. think they invested and wasted so much time on the falcon doors and it not looking like a traditional SUV narrowed the number of potential buyers. Rivian sold more R1S in America than Tesla have ever sold Model X in a year in America. That's with Rivian not able to meet demand.
Same reasons I believe a 80-100k truck with an unusual design won't sell in big numbers.

Don't blame Tesla. They have reduced prices, good way to upsell potential customers to the higher end model. Imo a car without a subwoofer does not sound good. So I would surely be one that gets upsold to the higher end models lol.

Plus some people don't care about sound systems in cars so they could get the car for a cheaper price now.
I'll search tomorrow for more info, but this is what I found
Link you posted is for the grand Highlander, which didn't have sales until July and that source has August sales missing.
It will be interesting to see if the R1S sales increase next year and by how much (if Rivian can meet demand). Any idea which high-end (75k+) 3 row has the most sales?
Off topic but I don't see how the regular Highlander survives with it being so close in price to the grand Highlander.

Agreed. Do they still use the same battery pack across all model 3 variants but disable a percentage for the lower end models?
I figured they must have run the numbers to confirm creating a different size battery pack is more expensive than using the same battery pack across all models. It just seems like such a waste.
I still like music and listen to it occasionally but mostly I'm listening to talk shows when I drive.
When I was young I wanted that but I don't need 13 speakers these days.
For me its not the number of speakers (although imo it still matters). A car audio system without a sub for low range just makes the audio sound flat, no depth. Though for your use case it makes sense.

Standard range 3s use the LFP batteries which are more economical. At least they did before the Highland update, but I'd assume they would keep it the same post refresh
