Well I missed out on every single massive growth stock. No one told me 20 years ago to invest in an index and forget about.
My biggest miss was Intuitive Surgical Inc. which is a robotic surgical device company. Back in 2009 it was around $10 or $11, one of my coworker's was practically begging me to get in. I said "It will be alright". Then it was $30...It will be alright. Today the stock is almost $400, but keep in mind that it split 3 times! If I had just followed my coworkers advice and invested $10K back then, I would have had a 3,246 percent return on my investment

You lacked long term thinking, I've been there. Way way back when I still remember having conversations with my techie friend about Apple and how they could be really big someday. Derp derp I bought zero shares. Idiot! My brain never made the connection from hey this could really happen to hello McFly act on the opportunity. I could have easily invested $5,000, so what if I lost it I spent way more on stupid crap in a year.
Same thing happened around the .dot com bust a client talked non stop about Google and even told me they are going to IPO soon this is very exciting. Well it wasn't exciting to me I did nothing about it.
I like buying stocks in blocks of at least 100 to get a better return.
i don't believe blocks of a 100 make any difference these days. with manual trading ages ago it might have, because amounts less than 100 were bundled with other "odd lots" so were more of a hassle.

I didn't have money to invest in that era. I was living paycheck to paycheck and trying to save up for a downpayment for a house during that time period

so go right ahead and buy 5 shares of NVDA.
You are probably right, but I'm hearing that they may do another split. Anyway, I don't have any free cash to sit on right now. We didn't get our usual bonus (which I usually invest) or pay raises this year, hopefully that will change as we have a potential partnership coming up which should give us a good cash injection

You're the same age as me there was 100% a time in your life when you could have put away $20/week. In 5 years you would have $5,000 drop that on AAPL and you would have been set for life. In 2004 AAPL was $0.40. You've purchased cars you didn't NEED you wanted them. Could have driven around in a 1993 Camry.
Delayed gratification is a lesson I wish I was taught from a young age.
I just heard on the news that Tesla will be at the upcoming 2024 Chicago Auto Show with the 3, X and Y. If I heard correctly, they'll be offering test drives too. I'm not sure if this has been covered in another thread so please excuse the duplication if it has.

Of course, but some people have foresight for example my client that bought Google when they IPO'd. And even raved about the IPO. I didn't LISTEN, really listen. Thought very much of myself and my fancy pants IT job why should I take advice about a company with a funny name.
I think we are in a similar situation now with AI and robotics. The value unlocked from a functional robot that can do human tasks is mind bending.
As the old saying goes, time in the market is better than timing the market. The market is almost always at or near all time highs, there aren't many periods where a market tracker held for a reasonable period has lost. With individual stocks of course you're going to see higher highs and lower lows, but the market, over time, has proven to be a reliable creator of wealth.
Yep. I do not bother with picking individual stocks. I'm an accountant, not an investment banker. I don't have the time to study and pick stocks and hope I made the right timing.
I just dump my money into index funds. My 401(k) is invested in a target date fund. My HSA and taxable accounts are invested in VTSAX and a similar ETF(inside the HSA which doesn't use vanguard).
I won't hit the short term rockets, but my money will grow pretty reliably over time.
We're not allowed to mention the big G around here.
I bet most people don't know this was fixed before any recall letters were mailed. A recall was initiated on something that already occurred. Other auto makers have seen the exact same problem, no recalls they filed a petition so they didn't have to spend any money fixing the indicators.
Whole Mars does a great job of breaking this all down

There may be an actual recall coming for the steering rack for Model 3 and Y. No software update, but having to bring it in to the service center to change the rack. So far my VIN is negative when I put it in
