Engine on a crane like to go up and down not horizontal.

Software is hard

Just three years after VW created Cariad, and only six months after an executive shakeup, the unit has planned to cut 2,000 jobs, German publication Manager Magazin reported over the weekend. The layoffs will further delay the launch of VW’s software architecture 1.2 by 16 to 18 months.

The software 1.2. platform, which is being developed for the Porsche Macan EV and the Audi Q6 E-Tron, was originally scheduled for completion in 2022. Cariad pushed the release date to the end of 2023 to be ready for 2024 VW models when Peter Bosch took over in May. Now, it looks like the software 1.2 platform won’t be in cars until at least 2025.

When you buy modules from 30 different suppliers it becomes basically impossible.

Currently the 2013 Sienna is mainly used for big loads, when we take our dog with us, and times when we have more than 5 passengers. It's used now about once a month. The Model Y will continue to be the trip car, unless we go camping

i think you only got the ioniq 5 what, 5 months ago or so? that would be very end of '25 at least most likely to trade out?
It's a 24 month lease, so it will end August 2025. Since it's a lease, I don't know how that works if I were to buy a Sienna. I'm assuming I'm just going to return it when it's over

sounds good. you bought the Y so would you buy the new 3 to replace the leased polestar?
Yes, I would buy it, not lease it

so your trip cost you $100 more maybe, so not really a great potential saving. plus he paid for that rental.
He didn't rent it to save money, but because his current minivan (2012 Honda Odyssey) now has over 200K on it and is no longer reliable. He has a family of 6

definitely a win simply having 1 less vehicle. but if you buy a new Y and Sienna (hybrid) that's definitely a pretty big outlay for those 'savings'.
It's mostly about having one less car, and not having one of the cars just sit. The Sienna hybrid (if that's what we end up getting) will be daily driven by my wife

hey i love new cars too and i could have spent a lot less on them than my 'mad' lexus purchase and leased new ioniq! but where would the fun in that be?
Answers are all above. To be totally honest, I really don't care about having new cars. Most of my adult life I've looked at cars from a practical standpoint. I buy them and keep them 10 years or more before moving on. I don't get bored with them like some do. I absolutely hate car payments, unless they are zero percent (or some very low percent) interest. Since I keep them longer term, I do want them to not only be practical and reliable, but comfortable, and fun.

The good thing about the Y is, if I need more power, it's available. Currently it has 384 HP, the upgrade ($2000) will give it another 100 hp for a total of 484 hp, which is more than I will ever need

Which EV has a spare? If you don't, how do you plan/deal with it? Cary a flat fix kit? A tire in the trunk? Or attach one to the back?

Roadside assistance is Tesla's answer.

Tesla will tow your car to either the nearest Tesla service center or tire repair of your choice within 50 miles of your location. BTW, never, ever use Fix a flat or that emergency gook they give you unless it's a dire emergency. If you use it, the tire has to be replaced as no tire repair facility will repair your tire, as it not only destroys the inside of the tire, but it gets all over their equipment

I've got a compact spare in my R1S. Air compressor is built into the car so I can pump it up when needed.

I've never had a flat while driving. I've removed the spare from all my cars.

Happy Halloween from the EQS. Mercedes seems to be having fun lol. The app and car did all this on their own. The 1st and 3rd images with the leaves were animated, with them all falling gently

PHEV so not entirely EV related, but I just found out that a somewhat local Volvo dealer has 2 2021 Polestar 1s on the lot. I'd be tempted to head out there for a look if it weren't so far away

The Polestar 1 was what got me interested in Polestar
