Pretty bad. I don't think they are going out of business, but they do need to raise cash, slowdown burn. Not being an expert, I'm only making an educated guess

Rivian was losing $32,500 per vehicle but that went up to $43,000 in Q1 2024. They are counting on the R2 to push them into profitability how they plant to do that exactly don't know. R2 supposedly will start at $40,000 and be profitable for Rivian that will require a dramatic decrease in production cost.

R2 is a 2026 vehicle I think it's very obvious Rivian will soon be trying to raise more money.

Full disclaimer, I have nothing against them, just rooting for the other brands I like better.

I AM rooting for Rivian!

Loss per vehicle increase because Amazon stopped taking deliveries of EDVs in late Q4. As they get out of their COVID era supply agreements there should a notable decrease in costs. Their guidance is still claiming a small profit in Q4 so we'll see if that comes to fruition.

What doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me is waiting until Georgia is up and running before bringing the R2 to market. Plant in Normal should have capacity to build the R2 but I guess they don't want to build the line in 2 places. March 7th is going to be very telling of their future.

Anecdotally, I'm starting to see a lot more Rivians aside from mine out and about. Product aside they need to get service stations out there to start delivering outside of the coasts

Much higher vehicle prices during covid largely cancelled out cost of goods.

Rivian guided for lower sales in 2024 unfortunately.

(don't shoot the messenger )

one interesting point in the video is that earlier on people bought ev's as an additional car.
now a load more buyers are trading in a car to buy an ev.

another point is 2/3rd ev's sold are tesla, and other brands are having a major hard time because of all the tesla price cuts.

No surprises. My next car will most likely be another Tesla. I was thinking about the EV 9 to replace both my Sienna and Ioniq 5 next summer, but I have no desire to waste valuable time at a dealership. Looking more like a Model X will be in my future. My brother in law is about to execute on one, I told him he should test drive it first

Not really considering most deliveries during that time (mine included) were pre-price hikes.

Production is flat for 2024 at 57K units.

Buy online and have it delivered. That’s what I did with my latest purchase.

Saw recently my neighbor has an EV 9 and a C7 Vette. EV 9 parked in the garage but they have the charger mounted outside the garage

Maybe Ford is doing that on purpose to make the new EV F150 feel more familiar to current ICE F150 owners. Building bridges.

Initial R2 specs have leaked
  • Starts at $47,500
  • Up to 330 miles of range
  • As fast as 0-60 in 3 seconds
  • About the size of a Rav4 / CR-V (185.6 inches long, 84.4 inches wide at the mirrors)
Still estimating 2026 which makes no sense to me if the Normal plant has capacity.
