Worth pointing out that absolutely nobody has directly answered this question.....

I think we know what my answer would be so that's all I'll say.

If you spend $10k on a battery pack and can get another 200k out of it, it's worth every single penny. If you spend $2k and get another 10 years out of your Prius, it's worth every single penny in my estimation

I did. I wouldn't buy a 12 year old gas car or a 12 year old EV. Does that qualify as question directly answered? I hope so because I don't know any other way to phrase it

I also have no interest in buying a used car over 5 years.

No, it doesn't, because you didn't answer the question.. You said if it was cheap you'd do it. Not the same thing.

If enough people have bad experiences, it will have an impact. 3 years old is the oldest I would even consider.
The warranty on my Lexuses was over in 4 years 50,000 miles, which is way less than that EV warranty. Does that mean that those cars will have massive failures after that time? The warranty and the total lifespan of the product are two different things, you know that

Extremely few people want to row gears lol.

Nobody is saying there will be NO ICE cars, its just going to be much more limited while most cars are EVs.

Most people aren't car enthusiasts and a car is just transportation to them with some style and status thrown in.

I would not buy any 12.5 year old car, and I wouldn't own any complex car without a warranty. I would not own an old LS or S Class or any other high end car without a warranty and just paid $3,100 to warranty my S Class through 75,000 miles.

If I were to buy a 12.5 year old car, honestly I would buy an EV and not worry about it. If the battery went bad and the cost to repair it was too great, I would sell it and buy another one. A 12 year old car would be totally disposable to me, ICE or EV.

You don't understand this because you do buy and drive old cars, for someone like us who doesn't do that...its hard to answer "yes" because we wouldn't buy any car that age...

I can tell you EV vs ICE would not play into my decision not to buy a 12.5 year old car.

If we're all being honest, we all know many people (and especially the people who don't frequent freaking Lexus forums and will def bat an eye at repair costs of $10k+ *rolls eyes*) would be fine with a 12 year old ICE car so long as it runs ok. It happens every single day. In fact, I've sold a couple of 12+ year old ICE cars in my time to people who seem fine with it (my old Nissan Maxima and Rav4).

But buying an EV with original batteries at 12 years is like buying a ticking time bomb, and this from someone who actually has owned an HEV (with a battery exponentially smaller than BEVs) for 15 years.

And as I'm actually being honest and not being a rah-rah fanboy, I can say I would NOT buy a used HEV at that age unless the battery has been replaced, much less a PHEV or BEV with much larger batteries.

But you drive two cars that are also a "ticking time bomb" and one of them is 12 years old. A Hybrid or PHEV is just as dead without its battery as an EV. What you are saying in rhetoric is not what you do in practice.

I would not own or drive any 12 year old car...unless it was a fun garage queen that I just drove for fun...thats the truth.

People will buy old EVs when there are a bunch of old EVs around. These concerns will make them cheap and really attractive.

I don't get why people in this thread think the battery will just suddenly stop working completely when they age. Will it degrade? Certainly, but it's not like blowing an engine where it'll become completely inoperable. Even the OG Nissan Leaf which had a horrible air-cooled battery had rapid degradation but they still worked.

I did edit it to make it clearer It will eventually stop working, but it's a typically gradual decline and not an abrupt one.

Anyway, updated Taycan reviews are starting to come out. This one is just a static review. April 3rd is when a full review is out with the Turbo S and Turbo GT impressions

That's more skirting. My point was rather general, so many adamantly pro-EVers don't like to admit anything negative about EVs.

In any case I'll leave it at that, I don't want this thread derailed by us arguing back and forth... Powers that be have stepped in once so I don't want to push it.
