Especially when he floors it, I actually think it slows his car down.

I can still appreciate a great engineered exhaust with a deep growl that doesn't drone. The M4 'S exhaust is the perfect example of a great exhaust note. Notice I didn't say noise . I could live with that for my daily commute
I hate those people who do that. I live about 50 feet from a main road and I hear them roaring by at night. 0-60 in a presidential term, but they think they've got the fiercest machine in town. You may be onto something with slowing down, gas engines need backpressure so if you go TOO open with the exhaust it can actually hurt performance. Give me an I6 or V8 with a properly set up exhaust any day (straight piped jerks keep moving, nobody needs to hear a straight piped 392 bouncing off the limiter for 30 minutes at 1 AM).

I'm seeing an increased number of young drivers on social media flexing "regular traffic". That's a Gen Z slang for an unremarkable car being treated like a performance vehicle or status object by an owner with little awareness. I don't like to be disrespectful because I think normal family or economy cars fill an important need for millions of drivers, but it is tacky when somebody buys a Camry or Accord and starts posting it to the gram with music like they're running a GT500 or something.

Fun times guys. My wife was able to get it back home, but we're going to have it towed to the local SC

This is the second time my wife's 3 has had a problem like this. The first time was much worse with the car fully undriveable. That was a failed body controller so it'll be interesting to see what this issue is.

It's probably easier to move on if your interest in cars was more on tech/luxury features or maybe visual styling. Those of us who like to hear and feel the powerband on our ICE engines, it's hard to give that up. Even if I know an M3P is going to gap my 540i. There's always going to be cars that can gap me.
I would agree with what you are saying and I know we like to analogize from a flip phone to a smart phone but I think a better analogy would be a Apple watch to a nice mechanical watch like a Rolex, Patek, AP, etc. Sure the Apple watch keeps time much more accurately, can be used to call people, get text messages, etc. but there is something special about a nice mechanical watch that has nostalgia with all of its mechanical complexities that to me is really cool which is why they are sought after and hold their value more.

Pruned a few recent posts starting to get political, let’s keep that off of CL please.

I think that Ebay front bumper cover, combined with the lip, easily give it an extra 10 hp........

It depends on the car you are talking about. Yes, the M4 I drove on Sunday, and others like it are just like a finely built mechanical watch, 100 percent agree, but how many people can afford an M4, M3, 911 etc? The M4 I drove on Sunday is over $100k, my friend put down something like $10k and his lease is $1500 a month, and he spends easily over $200 month on gas. Lets not get into insurance For under $60k, I can buy a car that will be a great daily commuter, comfortable and quiet, super efficient, and has near, or even better performance to the M4. And I bet the Model 3 Performance exceeds M4 performance wise.

The flip phone analogy is more towards cars like the Camry, Accord, RAV4 etc

You might be surprised. My 2023 M3 costs $138/mo with super high limits and a 16M on the drivers list. Before he got his license, it was $111/mo.

Haha...you don't live in Cali. Here's my policy just for the Model Y, which is less than half the price of the M4:

About $200 a month with a $1000 deductible. I'm guessing the M4 is more than double this

I agree with you here 100% related to normal cars, I was more thinking about BayeauLex and the kind of cars that he seemed to be talking about as enthusiast cars kind of like the M4 or the Civic Type R. There are many faster cars but enthusiasts like some complexity even if it is slower like in a manual car because it can be more engaging.

It could be an age thing too, would most of the younger generation appreciate a nice mechanical watch vs. an Apple Watch that does things so much better? In the age of tech, I would guess many would rather have the Apple Watch.
