Do you think it makes sense for Volvo to absorb Polestar instead?

The problem I see is that they have the same vehicles. C40 and CX-90 are basically P2 and P3 with different suspension tuning, slightly different looks, but same platform. Maybe, but they would need to differentiate more, like maybe Polestar would be like BMW's "M" brand. But I think it's best each goes their own way. Geely has a big investment in Polestar, I don't think they are going to let them fade away

I think Polestar should only exist as a performance brand of Volvo, or they should just disappear

guessing you didn't see the rest of the tweet...

I doubt Geely will fund Pokestar’s ongoing cash bleed given a total lack of Polestar brand equity.

Yikes

I read somewhere that Geely would continue to fund them. If I find that article I'll repost it. Oh well. I was thinking of buying out my P2 lease, but it looks like that won't be happening, especially as they use Volvo dealerships here for service and repair

Regarding Polestar, looking at the P2 forum, there's a mixture of acceptance and mass denial. Sadness and anger. For me the reality is setting in. A very promising brand that still gives me some hope, but I fear may be gone in two years.

Let's be honest. Tesla's price cuts, matched with losing tax credits, and it's dependency on Volvo dealerships for repairs and service are probably what most is sealing it's doom. More expensive than the Model Y LR, and now being abandoned by Volvo doesn't help either.

I guess we'll just enjoy our last year with our Polestar. I'll probably end up replacing it with a used Model 3

March 7th is the announcement date for the Rivian R2. Considering they only just broke ground in Georgia, I wonder how long before it gets to market. Current estimates are 2026ish which is quite a ways away.

I’m not sure the Polestar thing is fully understood yet. The ownership of polestar is odd as it appears to be set up as majority/minority under Volvo and Geely respectively, but geely owns Volvo anyway and has always had full control. So is this a decoupling from Volvo to have polestar blaze its own trail or is this the first step in winding down?

Blaze it's own trail. Polestar has the upcoming P4 coming out which is it's own platform

Saw this offer on the Polestar website:

But when you go to the configurator:

I don't know if this is good or bad news. I've read a few reports that Polestar is behind on factory orders for the MY 2024 P2 and are trying to clear them out. Interesting though that they are pricing the single motor the same as the dual motor (lease only). That would basically kill the SM variant

Better than a price cut to clear out old inventory. Then they don't have to deal with the press of raising/lowering prices

As you can see from the video, there is a reserve in the battery, the LR has an 81 kWh battery but 75 is usable. That was a pretty stupid thing he did, especially in freezing temps. Tesla does not cover damage to either the HV or LV batteries if you let them run out and they are damaged
