even gjeebs thinks some ioniq 5 features are cool...

the magnetic panel to the left of the steering wheel would make more sense for the phone if it had wireless carplay built in!

edit: just tried my phone on that panel and it seems like it's metal (covered in cloth) not magnetic and it won't hold my iphone for sure.

Excellent! Same one my neighbor has, but hers isn't branded to Hyundai, she must have gotten it before those branded ones were out.

bit more backstory... so after getting the car, it took about 10 days or more to get this email from hyundai telling me i was entitled to a free charger + $600 toward install. sounds good, and once i'd signed up on their website here: https://hyundaihomemarketplace.com it recommended and electrician which is who did the work.

the electrician visitied before to see what would be involved and then came today with his assistant to do the job. i never got any quote or job details ahead of time so was a bit apprehensive but said i'd save questions for when he came. so my first question was what gauge is the wire... i think i'd heard 4ga was needed. he said no, 6 is fine and that's what he had brought to install. i wasn't going to challenge because i'm no expert! checked after they started and 6 should be fine.

because there was no easy access to the attic above they did metal conduit up (from panel), around the garage door, and down to the charger location. super clean job. i'd agreed to that from the first visit.

excuse the dirty garage door, but you can see the metal conduit from the panel on right around to the charger.

and certainly not far to connect the car now from the charger, ha.

Nice clean job I approve. The fact you can drive your car in the garage at all means it's clean I know so many people that never use their garage for its intended purpose.

thanks. yes, from all the homes i've seen in canada, seems the majority use the garage for 'storage' (aka junk they'll likely never touch again) which is funny because most homes there have big basements as well.

i have no basement, and i want my garage only for cars (well i do have a few other things in it, but not much). a few years ago i added an 8x16' shed to put other 'junk' in.

That's obviously the biggest difference in home in building Florida vs. most of Canada. Also cinder blocks are common in the north east U.S. and going south here not at all due to the frost line. Is that mold on your garage doors? I don't know how you get used to the humidity I used to drive down to Tampa every year the heat+humidity hit me hard.

ha, no, it's 18 yrs of dirt. i've pressure washed out the garage several times, but not the doors for some reason.

could say same about ice and snow, but you do, right?

a huge swath of the world lives with heat and humidity, so it's not fatal.

here it's worst in july and august. tomorrow the high is 70 (21c) and sunny with low humidity. so it's not bad all year, lol.

There is always a trade off. We have rusty cars but interiors don't get massively roasted. Amazing summer and autumn. Winters can be quite harsh with many car accidents. Buying a used car in Alberta is mostly pointless you won't find many good examples that are 10+ years old. I wonder how my Y will hold up in winter, it's an absolute beast in slippery conditions but I'm talking potential rust problems. EVs in general are amazing in winter the traction control is waaaaaaay better.

my cars are in the garage more than not, so i'll take that over rust. unless you live on the beach here with salt spray (i don't0, cars can last forever.

no doubt... precision motor control > diffs/locks/etc.

But there are other unexpected problems like door panels rotting out from humidity. It takes a long time but if you want say a classic Toyota then dry states are a better bet.

Light years better. Plus since the car is fairly heavy it's perfect with winter tires. Almost too good makes you feel invulnerable. So you've had your car long enough to judge, does it make your Lexus feel ancient? Not bad, just....old school.
