santa brought a front/rear dashcam kit that's very slick as the front replaces the oem mirror surround for a totally clean install.
running wire from there to the back cam was simple and easy to hide... took about 20 minutes.

I need to get a couple for both of my cars, especially the X7 because the one that is built in is useless because to record you have to activate it within a short period of time after an accident and who can remember to do that after an accident? The Tesla cameras are ok but the video quality is horrible compared to yours.

I have a Fitcam X in my Lightning, as others said it’s an easy install and it works very well. The only minor wrinkles are if you are wirelessly connected to CarPlay you need to switch to the Fitcam network to access the footage and it records video in smaller few minute segments rather than by start to finish trip. But overall it’s a great dashcam.

Video recording should be mandatory in every car, at least two views. The amount of fraud and in general headache this would save is unbelievable. I also think it would make for safer drivers they will think twice about doing stupid things.

I agree, should be mandatory. I took some test videos in my Y, and you would never get away with trying to saying its my fault if it wasn't. Its set to automatically record if it detects an event like someone getting to close. I also have one of the buttons in the steering wheel programed to activate recording on the fly

I agree, should be mandatory. The savings in insurance loss would be huge.
I was at a party a few months ago and a drink woman who was actually the server at the party left and must have put her foot all the way to the floor and slammed into another car which slammed into a Tesla Model 3, the police were so delighted to get the footage from the Teslas cameras which caught everything…
When the kid rear ended me in my LS some years ago, the camera again caught everything. Made dealing with insurance really easy. Hard to argue with the camera.

Thats not what we are talking about
Teslas have interior cameras that record? News to me. No other manufacturers do either. They use stereo cameras to make sure you are paying attention for autonomous driving but not an interior dashcam that records.

Cabin camera-based features are currently only available for Model 3 and Model Y vehicles equipped with Tesla Vision. For these eligible vehicles, the cabin camera can determine driver inattentiveness and provide you with audible alerts to remind you to keep your eyes on the road when Autopilot is engaged. To protect your privacy, images and video from the cabin camera do not leave the vehicle itself and are not transmitted to anyone, including us, unless you enable data sharing.
If you choose to enable data sharing, in the occurrence of a serious safety risk or a safety event like a collision, the vehicle can share images and short video clips with us to help develop future safety features and software enhancements, such as collision avoidance.
