Having said that the only thing that keeps rates even somewhat under control is competition. It's all well and good for the industry to broadly go all in on one vendor and leave the others to fade into oblivion, but it's in the consumer's best interests for others to be viable and to compete hard with Tesla. And remember this, if the Disney spat and related Disney+ removal is anything to go by, you are always at risk of someone somewhere upsetting Musk and suddenly your particular brand of vehicle is shut out of the network. Sometimes you have to be careful what you wish for.
Usually the Musk spats don't mean anything. Using the Disney + as an example, it's seems to be still installed on everyone's Tesla and hasn't been removed. I think he throws a temper tantrum and throws a bunch of threats, but that's all they are. Only the stock seems to take the hit, unfortunately (or fortunately if you are looking to scoop some up).

On your first note, I 100 percent agree, there needs to be competition. And I think there will be. If done properly, there is money to be made in the charging space

Maybe Disney will come out with a charging network and make everyone happy. No one is unhappy using with Disney products and services.

As long as the cable doesn't come out of the front of Mickey, I'm totally fine with that

I plug in nightly and I've seen my home power bill is up about $80/month in the 14 months I've had the car. Comparing that to what I spent on gas in my LS460 (about $400/month) is quite a difference. But I don't care about the savings, I just love the EV driving and ownership experience at this point.

Still costs me $70-80 to fill mine up.

My friend MYLR I have a screenshot somewhere of his electric bill increasing by $185 by him charging solely at home. Now I don’t know much he was spending in fuel on his previous car that took premium gas.

That seems like a lot, but these things vary. My electric company drastically raised their rates early last year, so I initially thought it was costing me way more to charge our Y. As I look back over the last 9-12 months of more stable rates from the electric co, for me it's about $80/month. But if I wasn't paying attention to the rates I would've thought it was more in the $150 range.

It's also winter, and electricity usage goes up. I've already hit 1000 kWh usage. With charging 4 electric cars, an electric stove, and general usage, my electric bill this month is around $150. My natural gas bill is higher, at $179. My electric company combines both, so I have to sort through it.

I think your friend may be either misreading his bill or just may have high usage due to winter

I spend over $400 a month fueling my S Class, so that would be a win.

He must deplete the battery every day to run those cost numbers monthly. My whole house costs $185 in electricity to run

Up by $185/mo? That's crazy! I just looked at our charging costs since we purchased in July. We've spent $190 total, which includes 2 supercharge top-offs. We're currently at 3,600 miles. How much does your friend drive per month?

in most of the US, $185 is between 15 and 20 full nightly charges.

Is he driving 200 miles every day?

This was back in the summer. I have to dig further thru old message to find the $185 increase.

So he’s driving a ton, this is a Model Y? That’s 8 charges from empty in a month. That’s potentially 2,000 miles driven in a month.

Also note though, look at the gas savings on that screen shot.

This is an estimate. You would have to input the cents per kWh to calculate any charging done at home. But damn, he drives a lot in a month

‘23 MYLR. I wonder how the gas savings is determined.

I’m quite sure I drive more than 2k miles in 1 month so that’s not surprising to me. I want to say I did close to that on just 1 vehicle last month and not including our other vehicles.

If so, that's WAY above average. The average US driver travels 13,476 miles per year, or 1,123 miles per month.
