You realize the average car is over $40k now right? $40k is not an expensive car anymore.

Polestar 2 is currently leasing for $299/mo, and if you are a Costco member the DAS drops to around $1,000. Just over $9k total (plus tax) to lease for 27 months.

Crazy....is that for the Dual motor? My current P2's lease is $520 a month with $4000 down

Yes I do. But electric cars we are told are simpler, friendlier and use less parts than ICE cars, therefore in my mind, less expensive. That will need to be part of the draw to get me to an electric vehicle.

Yes, that's part of the May promotion:

Complimentary dual motor upgrade. Polestar 2 Long range Dual motor is now available for the same price as a Long range Single motor.
Yours has the performance pack though, which increases the MSRP by roughly $8k over the standard LRDM. I think that would land you at roughly $500/mo with $1500 down.

Battery packs are the most expensive part of an EV, which is why they are covered under 8 to 10 year/120,000 mile warranties. Drivetrains are also covered under this same warranty. In 2 years and 4 months and 32,000 miles, my Polestar has costed me $0 in maint, unless you count windshield wiper fluid. In electricity, it's costed me on average $35 a month. Keep in mind, it has 476 HP, does 0 to 60 in 3.7 seconds. My 2023 Model Y now has almost $15k on it, costs about $30 a month in electricity and the only maint I've had to do is rotate the tires twice at $30 each rotation

Polestar is a separate company from Volvo. It's sold here:

Something being a certain way "in your mind" doesn't have any bearing on reality. EVs are more expensive than comparable ICE cars, its because its much newer technology that is still early in its stages of being monetized where the manufacturer begins to make a profit on the R&D investment.

Ultimately it will be cheaper, but thats still a long ways off.

My mind is reality. It is not artificial.

I don't need an EV. I don't need to pay for what is of no value to me. As it is when a person buys an ICE vehicle, especially a truck or SUV, they are paying for the development of the EV's. That is the reality.
I looked at that Polestar car. Kind of like a cheap Renault 5 look to the interior. I will look at one when I see one around here. Interesting.

It has the same quality interior as a Camry (and I've owned many Camry's), so if you think a Camry has a cheap interior, than you will think the same of the Polestar. It's not a luxury car, but a sporty commuter that's fun to drive and efficient, and FAST. Nothing more, nothing less.

so far 32,000 miles no rattles or squeaks, and it's very quiet at any speed

Its reality to you, but not to the rest of the world. I can think something should cost no more than a certain amount, but that doesn't have any impact on what it actually costs.

Polestar looks cheap inside because its cheap.

Yep, that's why I bought. Needed a cheap EV for my commute that wasn't Chevy Bolt or Leaf cheap, was fun, and I can return it in 3 years waiting for better EV'S to emerge. At the time Model 3 base was nearly $60k

People who haven't bought a car in a long time are totally unprepared for what cars cost today. Cars are expensive. I'm so exasperated trying to make a deal work to replace my car I'm about to bag it and just keep it, I've never had a harder time working out a deal.

In terms of EV vs ICE cost, I'm looking at 760s and i7s as you know, the i7 is slightly more expensive than the 760 (about $4k more), BUT the way the lease deals work out its actually about $350 a month cheaper to lease. When you factor in the $300-350 a month I spend on gas, yeah an EV would be ~$550 a month cheaper for the identical car.

BMW is heavily subsidizing the residuals and MF with their electric leases right now. Not to mention the $7500 EV credit that has no income or price limits when leasing. It sure makes them very tempting as their TCO is very low right now for a luxury car. Compare to the lease prices on BMW ICE cars and they're definitely using ICE profits to subsidize their EVs. Tesla's leases in comparison are pretty bad right now for the equivalent MSRP
