i believe if lucid doesn't have another model FOR SALE (not just reservations) in 2 years, they'll be toast. tesla was always about the model 3 and Y as the long game. without those models tesla would be gone too.
I think Lucid's technology better serves the lower end of the market. Their secret sauce is how small their super efficient electric motors are and this would serve very well in something the size of a Model 3 or smaller. They could probably make the most efficient, highest horsepower, with the best packaging if they targeted that market but they went to the executive class first. We'll see if this strategy pays off.
i don't wish for lucid to fail of course, competition is a good thing, and i hope they succeed fabulously.

Do they do performance tests? I do find the trunk opening/design super strange but otherwise the overall package is beautiful.

They drive it through Malibu Canyon, which is a famous winding road in Southern California. It has so much torque and power that it starts to make him feel woozy LOL. Although the opening they do pretending to be Lucid engineers is hilarious, it brings home the point that how much power an EV makes is literally a decision they can make right on the spot. You want 800? 900? 1000? It's basically a programing decision

Yes, Newark, California which is in the EastBay. Santa Monica is in Southern California, about 400 or so miles south

And brakes
And pack cooling
And cell management/count
And motor windings
And axle strength
And pack heat management
And.......
Its not just selecting a number. It's not magic, it's just a simple electrical motor hooked into some suspension and a whole lot of management of the cells to prevent it blowing up.
It also will never be anything more than what it is. Never will be faster or something completely improved/unique. Just a battery and motors.
If anything it's ICE cars that have a hell of a lot more potential if you allow them to be programmed for power instead of emissions and mpg. Like a LOT more.

BTW I was joking in my previous post, I fully understand the complexities in EV'S
