Long distance isn't that big of a deal. Charge 20 min every 3 hours is what I do in my ICE for breaks anyway. Towing will never be ideal for EVs.

It's not as bad as towing, but there are many people don't want to deal with 20-40 minute breaks every few hours when doing long distance treks. It still takes more planning and thought than current gas trekking.

True but it's manageable and the times will go from 20 min to 10 min every 3 hours. Towing may never be resolved with an EV. One is a transitional issue, the other is a fundamental one.

Saw my 1st Rivian yesterday. I really wanted to like the Rivian, but it is smaller than I thought.
The color on this one was horrible, yellow orange kinda. Wifey said it was marigold like old kitchen countertops.
Starting at $68K ? Gimmie an F-150 with that great 2.7 Ecoboost and 10 speed trans.
The side view is a little better; the front looks like it is going backwards.
It looks like a kid's toy. Did I mention it is really small? Sheesh.

that's the real answer for many ev 'questions' - have other non-ev vehicles.

When something doesn’t make sense, it’s a pretty good indication that you were never in the target market.
well it's not that ev makers don't WANT people to tow, it's just that they aren't very good at it, so caveat emptor.

at some point, i'm sure we'll have lighter battery packs and even more powerful ev's, so their towing range will be doable.

$3k vs $0 a year. Worth the extra wait given I only road-trip a couple times a year.

I rode in one of these last weekend, buddy of ours stopped by who is now working for Rivian. It was dark so couldn’t judge size well, his was a beta launch version so was a specific greenish color only available in that model. Some pretty innovative features and cool design. Still pretty new and working out the software kinks and exterior fit and finish have a ways to go. But promising.

interior was nice, screens were great and appreciated it feeling a lot more ‘normal’ to me vs Tesla. Ride was definitely a bit trucklike still, blazing fast and impressive traction capability (it was just after some snow and ice so roads were still a bit slick)

said the larger long range battery isn’t out yet so towing above should improve, spot for it under the back seat.

It’s not for me, but thought it was pretty cool and think they are on the way to be a real competitor .

I think it works better as an SUV. I'd be very interested in the R1S when it comes out. It's a really nice looking vehicle overall.

Would take me 15 years to get to the base price of any EV.

Here's the entire Rivian color-palatte, if you don't care for the colors you have already seen.

They also have better examples of the colors on the web-site, although I couldn't copy and paste it because it automatically changes color.

Jeff, you apparently saw the Compass Yellow, and, Dave, either the Launch Green or the Forest Green.

If it were me, I think I'd pick the Blue.

Did you invest in the company?

If so, its stock closed Friday at 60.87....the market shuts down for the weekend.

At the IPO, I put 100k in. Gonna keep it there for at least 5 years but I think it should do fine given the contracts
