There is no demand at all.

Cars and Bids has R1S's going between $90K and $101K with most of them hovering around $95. The 'gotta have it now' group paid ~$130K for the early flips and now people are willing to wait for their number to be called vs. paying the premium.

We are in a different world- nobody is paying over for a C8 now. In fact, you can get them at less than MSRP.
When Rivians first came out over a year ago - they were going for over but now dealers can’t sell ones for delivery miles at msrp lol.
They sold less units in Q1 2023 than in Q4 2022 - that is not good for a company that should be “growing” and has long line of supposed order…..The fact that used market has plenty of them available is also not great sign.

Why do you seem to think this is unique to the Rivian?! It isn't

R1S's are definitely still in demand. They were going through auction over $100,000 through mid April. Softened to $96K for an example with just over 1,000 miles the other week. So yes, dealers are going to try their luck with the R1S for sure.

I never said its unique to them.
What i said was they are In similar position to Lucid and will most likely not be around for long term.
If their customer wait orders are *true* then they can’t meet demand due to manufacturing issues. A growing company with long wait list needs to be Increasing production Quarter over Quarter not reducing it. Thats not a good sign, neither is their stock price or their weakened relationship with Amazon.
In general - even the very wealthy folks are thinking twice about making new purchases due to increased financing costs and other economic factors.
I have seen several R1S suvs in past week compared to only 2-3 of the pickups in past 6 months. 2 of them were at my kids school this morning.
Brave folks for buying this thing or any new brand of car.

My point is legacy cars in high demand are also experiencing the same phenomenon.

So anyway, I had my First Mile drive in Brooklyn today. Getting to and from Brooklyn 0/5. In the morning it wasn't too bad as the Holland was flowing decently, but leaving was a pain after lunch.
The R1S itself was fantastic - 4/5. Panel gaps/alignment were good, the interior quality and materials were leagues ahead of my 3, tons of space in the 2nd and 3rd rows, the remote frunk was awesome, and the truck was just well put together. I did the drive in a mix of All Purpose and Sport mode. My guide found a little space for us to open it up getting on the Brooklyn Queens Expressway and it definitely feels like it does 0-60 in 3 seconds! Coming from my 3P it was clear that it was a big SUV. A little floaty in All Purpose, but very comfortable. In Sport mode, truck felt decently planted. Again, not as good as my 3P, but considering the size/weight of the R1S, it was very impressive. My favorite part was when we went over this short, bumpy metal bridge that had seen better days. All-Purpose / High suspension just ate it up. It was like driving on well paved roads.
Little complaints - side view mirrors don't go down when you put it in reverse. The 360 view on the main screen is helpful, but I hope this gets addressed in a future software update. Doors are a bit heavy for the kids, but they'll get used to it.
Overall, I can't wait for mine to come in. I did talk to the guide and he put me on the lead list since I have flexibility on the color combo and won't be financing the truck so fingers crossed.

Surprised the mirrors don't tilt down, could there be a setting somewhere?

There will probably be a software update that enables tilt down. Even my 2020 Hyundai Ioniq EV has that feature, you can turn it on or off
