how many times must it be said that calling tesla a 'luxury auto maker' doesn't make it true? the only thing that makes it 'luxury' is the price of S and X and higher end 3/Y.

if luxury simply means demand and people are choosing it over actual luxury cars, then ok.

It doesn't matter; the market considers Tesla a luxury car.
Of course you are right; Tesla is no MBZ. Nor is it trying to be.
Tesla, MBZ and BMW are cross shopped, so there's that.
Regardless, make no doubt, Tesla is taking market share across the board.

Yep, it's a small but very vocal group. Most people are afraid to speak up or they get stomped on. Mostly members located in the US or England

There were a ton of angry Rivian folks on the forums when the change was announced. Elon is very polarizing

Electrify America is on board, but parent company VW hasn't joined. Awkward.

Tempting to get an new account on there and lurk just to see the meltdowns. Haha

Just kidding, I won't do it but thought has crossed my mind. Lol

Yes, OK, it may help Tesla's business but helps them too. IMO

They are in talks with Tesla to adopt the NACS now.

Volkswagen in talks with Tesla to adopt its charging standard
(Reuters) -Volkswagen is in talks with Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) to adopt its North American Charging Standard (NACS), joining a slew of automakers and charging equipment makers that are choosing the technology.

Ford, General Motors (NYSE:GM) and ChargePoint are among the companies that have signed up for Tesla's charging design in the past few weeks.

"Volkswagen (ETR:VOWG_p) Group and its brands are currently evaluating the implementation of the Tesla North American Charging Standard (NACS) for its North American customers," the German automaker said.

Electrify America, its EV charging network unit, has more than more than 850 charging stations with about 4,000 chargers in the United States and Canada.

During the NACS transition, Volkswagen, which sold nearly 16,000 EVs in the United States in the first quarter, will continue to offer the widely used Combined Charging System (CCS) connector. It had sold just 7,900 EVs a year ago.

Tesla, meanwhile, has expanded beyond its connectors to include CCS at some of its U.S. charging stations as the Biden administration seeks to provide billions in subsidies to expand charging networks.

The EV maker's Superchargers account for about 60% of the total number of fast chargers in the United States, according to the U.S. Department of Energy.

Separately, Polestar has signed an agreement with Tesla to make available its charging network to the customers of the Swedish electric vehicle maker in the United States and Canada.

The percentage of customers who migrated from Toyota to Tesla was up 2.1 points to 5 percent year over year.
I've never thought of Toyota drivers as people that would look at a Tesla turns out my perception is not very good.

The Toyota owners I know are what I would call traditional, none of them want a Tesla. Although they admit they have never driven one or know much about them. The prevailing attitude is EVs are bad for the environment and no I am not in redneck country many people in my city are liberal types (voting patterns prove it).
