I would say this is on topic. If Dave doesn't have problem with it, you can answer it. Whatever your answer is, it's cool with me. I jumped on you on your earlier post, I apologize for that

No problem, I apologize too.

Toyota has been having production issues, for whatever reason. This combined with high gas prices (average in WA is now more than CA believe it or not) has led to lots of people to explore EV's. Heck, I've even thought about it. $92 to fill up the other day and I get about 350 miles. It gets old fast, but at the same time I don't really see any EV's that strike my interest. If Tesla had an option that resembled more of a traditional car (regular door handles, some physical buttons, etc) then maybe I would consider one.

Cybertruck will be a niche product. Agree or no?

Fair enough answer. Wait for the Model 2 to come out, it's rumored to be priced the same as a Corolla. But it won't have regular door handles . The reason Tesla hides the door handles is better aerodynamics. I'm sure when Toyota and Lexus finally come out with a full fledged ready for prime time EV, they will probably do something similar. Don't quote me on that

I had a lot of reasons I didn't want to buy a Tesla. I tried hard to find a comparable vehicle from another manufacture. If all were equal, we'd be buying a IONIQ 5 Limited. It was almost impossible to get the dealer to give us an honest quote. They ended up just giving us the $2k rebate and then wanted to jack it back up a grand with some window etching and wheel locks. At the end of the day, it was $4k more than the LR Model Y. They also don't qualify the $7,500 federal rebate on a purchase.

The only other EV that compared on price, was the VW id4. The fact that it's a competitively priced EV plus qualifies for the rebate was promising. Once you drive them both and read actual customer reviews, it became no contest. I'm hoping that will change with time. Having all EV's using the same charge plug standard is a good first step in that direction.

Looks like Tesla is going to have another record quarter

Tesla (TSLA) is expected to report record deliveries

"Tesla (TSLA) is expected to release its second quarter 2023 delivery results in the coming days, and Wall Street is expecting yet another record quarter for deliveries"

"The analyst consensus for the second quarter is that Tesla is going to deliver 448,000 vehicles. That’s up 6% from the 422,000 vehicles Tesla delivered last quarter"

"The new estimate would put Tesla’s total deliveries in 2023 at around 870,000 units, which would mean that Tesla would need to deliver an average of half a million vehicles per quarter during the second half of the year in order to deliver on its guidance of 1.8 million vehicles"

YOY Q2, Tesla deliveries increased by about 75%.
Margins will be interesting, with price slashing vs economies of scale and factory utilization.

Things will get real interesting in another year as Monterrey comes on line. The Highland upgrade production will be ramping in Q1 or Q2 I imagine...
Add to that the revenue stream from Supercharging. Any increase in use of an existing asset is pure margin.

End of quarter Tesla deliveries usually means there is a stock sell off could be a buying opportunity. Margin will be down about 2% in my estimation. Cybertruck is going to be the most interesting vehicle launch I think ever nothing even close has ever been made.

Even if it sells like "hot cakes" , I doubt very much anyone anywhere will see the roads filled with the CT any time soon. Why? It's sales will still pale in comparison to existing ICE truck sales. Add to that the millions of ICE trucks already on the road.

There is no way you'll see any roads filled with the CT

cost of batteries dropped a lot too. Lithium price went down heavily in past 6 months.

it is all about price. If it ends up being 80k minimum, it will be niche product for sure.

When Elon talked about Cybertruck recently and mentioned 250k/yr, that has to be pricing related. Nothing else.

I think "everywhere" is a stretch. It will definitely be all over up and down California, especially SoCal where people like big trucks and SUV's. But other parts of the country? We'll have to see and wait.

I still think it belongs off planet or in a remote desert somewhere, but to each their own
