Default Looks like Tesla Model S/X refresh is near

Rumor is that employees have been told to liquidate all S and X inventory.

Tesla S has taken so much market share away from the flagship luxo automakers. A really influential product

You wonder why they stopped production in December...perhaps to upgrade the lines for the refresh.

Lets hope the new Plaid model comes early

Yeah, I read that everywhere back then. Looks like it might actually happen this time.

Is this the type of company to send out test mules prior to the actual release/refresh? I don't think I've ever seen such a thing before.

Probably means unload all test drive cars. They frequently discount those.

If they are used repeatedly as test-drive cars, they are known as "Demonstrators" or "Demos". They almost always carry a substantial discount from a near-zero-mileage new vehicle.

Yup. I watch the market and often you can get close a demo performance base model for the same price as a new loaded long range plus model. If this rumor is true, they are likely going to try to push those cars out quickly, maybe even discounting more.

Nationwide inventory is very low right now for the Model S, especially for the cheaper long range plus model.

They discount and don't negotiate off that price.

Model S and X make up only 10% of Tesla sales. Both models have dropped 35% in sales over 2018 figures.

Doesn’t surprise me about the sales figures given the price point, not much different than other manufacturers flagships. The other problem is that even though the S design is timeless, you get almost the same everything everything else with the much cheaper Model 3.

I would love to get a Model S but their lease rates are terrible and at that price point there are many other cars that I find better overall.

Of course sales have dropped in that timeframe - until the Model 3 came available (limited production started July 2017), if you wanted a Tesla, you only had the option of the S or the X - both of which are priced as premium/luxury cars. The Model 3 is the car that saved Tesla because it appeals to the mass market based on size and price point (as does the Y). Everyone knew the sales of the S and X would be impacted by the release of the 3 and the Y. It doesn't matter as long as the 3 and the Y have healthy profit margins to make up for the "mix shift" in the portfolio.
