For my place I'm thickening insulation and replacing all windows to modern ones with reflective/insulating film right low actually to try and improve the R value as a whole. Place was 1993 built so to say it's under insulated is an understatement....plus my AC unit is original and horrible at its job and undersized to boot. I need a 6 ton or really dual 3s but I have a 4 that has to run near constant for 78*
Other thing is lights. I updated my house from old style stuff to a mix of CREE Gen4 LEDs in the 4800k temp range and Phillips Led 48" bars and a bunch of fixture "retro" type LEDs.
I replaced 36 100watt floods, 10 200 watt exterior corner property floods, Front and side façade lighting, all 8 carriage lights and the path lamp, the two large format chandeliers with 12/24 60 watt bulbs each, the kitchen one with 6x75, and all the small format ones with 3 to 6 35-60 watts times 10 fixtures. Basement had all 24 48" rods and three 100w spots replaced as well.
My parents gave 38 100w floods in the second floor main room alone.....and 8 per bedroom and 48 in the family room. I'm still phasing modern lights in section by section since if they leave the upper level on for even two hours at night the batteries start *****ing by morning in the summer.

I'll recheck the figures but I know for a fact it's really high since the solar array we made had to have twin 15k watt Solarcs and they still can't run everything all at once. They also gave 75 460w panels and 12 5.5KWH batteries just to make it through a night. Their house is 7.2k sq ft.
Base load is 8k watts per panel over there so 16k watts hour. We also have a lot of power drinking stuff we run, the computers alone each take 850-1200 watts when in use and they have 4 of them. Server blade takes the same
I rechecked and that's peak that I used to size stuff. Average is 85kwh for me and 125kwh for them but two year peak usage was the high figures I linked. I used the worst case scenario figures to size the solar so in winter with really bad performance the system can still carry the place 100% on its own for two full days.
My HOA doesn't allow solar so I was forced to use a gas generator, in theory my house is fine as long as I get gas flow.....if I lose it then I lose heat/hot water and the generator. Their place has a geothermal system so all they need is power, but a lot of it.....both houses are nearly all electric for everything else but I've already run a gas line to the laundry room and kitchen since I'm debating converting to gas there since it would cost less than 1/4 to run.

My brothers house is 6,000 sq ft, he lives in a very hot part of SoCal (Eastvale, Riverside county) where it can go over the 90's F in the winter, summers can easily be 113F on cool day. He has dual AC units which can run 24 x 7 in the summer, and his solar panels cover 110 percent of his energy use
Anything less and we end up still buying from the grid. In our minds the whole point of solar is to be able to stand alone.
And now you know why I place such an emphasis on cheap cars lol! We usually throw money into other areas of life, but I still like nice stuff so I try and get the most I can for the money when it comes to cars. My windows cost 32k for the front and 28k for the rear, that would have been a nice car if I didn't want to update them. I have a lot of glass here, the back wall is 18' of glass and it gets extremely hot with sunlight
Basically this for most of the house, lots of glass and lots of losses. Anyway I'm going back to painting trim lol!

Im sure it does, Ohio doesn't have nearly the same amount of sun you guys have.....we need massive arrays for when we have 50% or less output for two weeks at a time. It's kinda infuriating since in summer like 1/3 of what we have is enough to run everything. But winter is when it's needed so....

My first property has an HOA, and I will never in my life live in another community run by an HOA. Single family homes like my current one are disappearing, which is why I have no plans for selling any time soon

Yep, I'm just waiting for the rule to be rescinded and I'll be putting my personal array up. Already have it planned out and I'm tempted to actually setup the system minus panels already since it can grid sell.

That's tune only.......not even getting the 5.0 involved with things. Don't forget the new Rams are also coming with FI now in a I-6 so they will be able to exceed this fairly easy. EVs will need to get faster to keep up
