But surpassed by his knowledge of where the industry is heading. Gotta wonder why the man is not CEO of Ford or Tesla.

If the Murai was a TV show, it would have been cancelled a long time ago

hydrogen is junk, whats the point in using a lot of electricity for a fuel cell that drives an electric motor. Thats the same function as an electric car but with a lot more BS. Hydrogen fuel cell efficiency throughout the entire power distribution is hardly better than ICE car's efficiency (22% vs 13%). EV obliterates them both.

I haven’t seen an F150 lightning in person yet but just chatted up a Rivian owner at a Supercharger station. He has had every Tesla Model and was an early adopter back in 2013. Has had his Rivian Launch Edition for two weeks and says it’s better than any of his previous Teslas in every way except for battery charging and navigation.
The build quality is excellent and the many features are impressive. It has everything a Tesla has but also a powered frunk, powered tonneau cover, tons of storage, air suspension, cooled and heated front seats, nifty flashlight built into the door (based on a single battery cell), and even a sub-Frunk! I initially felt the Rivian RT1 looked goofy in photos with the front headlights but in-person I really like it! Now that the wife has basically taken over my Model Y, I was contemplating getting a new car for me. I hadn’t considered a truck since they’re so big but the Rivian is very appealing. The owner reserved his before the price increases and was also still eligible for the $7500 federal tax rebate.

I have seen 4 or 5 Rivians in the South Bay. They look smaller in person. If you can charge at home and use it mostly locally, it could be a good, if pricey, option.

I've seen a bunch of them in the wild and they look really nice up close. They are also getting well reviewed. I'm seriously looking at the RS1 SUV when I am ready to change my Sienna out. Probably 2025 time frame

I think it would be a great road tripper...along with the F150 too. The charging may take awhile simply because the batteries are gigantic in those cars but they seem super plush. Ironically, my Model 3 is a good road tripper in that charging is fast and plentiful, but road noise is high so not so great there

TFLTruck did a road trip with a new lightning from Dearborn MI back to Colorado and cataloged how much it cost, how much time etc. 11 stops in 1225 miles, 11 hours of charging time including a 6 hour hotel sleep and meals, $193 worth of charge expenses. Ford gave them 250kWh free with purchase not sure if thats included in that figure.

I haven't finished the 3rd video yet, but I'm pretty sure the expenses were what they actually paid, so the free 250kWh covered about 10% of the trip, and the overnight charge at the hotel's "level 2" charger another 0.2% . They were getting about 2 miles per kWh, and if I recall were paying either 43 or 47 cents per kWh. Someone on another forum did the math, and the cost/mile is equivalent to a 24mpg vehicle fueled at $5/gallon. Obviously that goes WAY down if you charge at home.
Charging is free for me for the next two years, but if I had to pay the non member guest cost of .43 cents per kWh, it would have costed me $30.96 to drive the 390 miles. If I had taken my 2013 Sienna which has a 20 gallon tank, assuming gas is $5 a gallon (it's more like $7.80 a gallon) it would have costed me anywhere from $50 to $80 to fill up my tank. An F-150 Lightning is about 20 to 30 percent less efficient so it would have costed about $6 more in electricity. A regular F-150 would have easily costed over $100 for the same trip. Most people charge at home, they have the 2 or 3 year free plan, or if they travel a lot they have the membership plan which drops the rate to .31 cents per kWh

How, when it would cost an F-150 Lightning under $50 to drive 400 miles? Even at an expensive .43 cents a kWh. Are you saying you pay $2 a gallon or get 50 mpg? That doesn't make sense when it gets 70 MPGe and most with that kind of power are lucky to get 30 mpg

They calculated the cost above, my car gets over 30 so that would have been better than what they paid on their trip. So......yeah. It only beats my truck by 2mpg cost per mile wise, the extra time wasted more than gives the advantage back to the ICE car
