It rides well, but it doesnt ride AS well as a car that is dedicated to having the best ride it can have, which is what I want. Plus, I think they're kinda ugly. A Range Rover is better riding and quieter, smoother and more refined. I would much rather have that, sorry. 0-60 in 3.2 and 185 MPH...I don't care.

You are a car enthusiast. And if they take the Plaid badge off, you would have no idea if a Model S is a Plaid or not, There is no way to know.

1968 Corvette Convertible. I call it my "Plain Jane Roadster" because the only options are L36 427/390 engine and AM/FM Stereo.
In 68 FM radios were fairly rare; stereo was an expensive option. 2nd gear part throttle will get you sideways if you are not careful.

It has the wide ratio 4 speed and 3:36 posi. Mostly original. It was really rough when I got it. I sent it up to my BIL a few years back to finish the interior.
Here is the new soft top. This pic has the aftermarket 16x8 Chrome Ralleye wheels and 255/50/15 Comp TAs which make the car sit low...

It's awesome! I like the low stance. I really enjoyed going for a ride in my neighbor's 69 convertible. His needed some work when he first got it as well. I had forgotten how much those cars vibrate! Polar opposite of a Tesla I'm sure. I wish I knew more about it to tell you. I think it has a widebody kit. So much fun! That's funny that radios weren't common then. My earliest car memory is of my parent's Buick Skylark with an 8 track. Wasn't the 427 not so common as well? Dad had a 3 speed 327 SS 69 Camaro, which would get sideways real quick like you said that does. My first car, 1989 325i 5 speed would go sideways also. I'm thankful for traction control. That plus awd, and the instant torque of the electric motors really help the Plaid do what it does!

What modern skid control systems can do is truly amazing. You're right, without that technology the Plaid would be a total death trap. Before I got my S Class I had a 2017 LS460L that was RWD, and it was amazing how with the skid control on, in the snow you could not make it break the rear end loose.

Yep, it took some getting used to when I got my first rwd car with traction control. 02 IS 300...I wasn't expecting it to drive so well in the rain. My old BMW was a nightmare in the rain. And it only had 168 hp Lol. But it was fast back then. Makes me wonder about a Plaid in the rain with no traction control ...all that instant torque!

AM radios were in every car but AM/FM mono was an extra $170. AM/FM Stereo was a pricey option at $280.
If memory serves, here are the 1968 ending options:
Base 327 300 HP L75
327 350 HP L79
Base 427 390 HP L36 - this is my car. A lot were sold. $200 option.
427 400 HP L68 - same as L36 except 3-2 barrel Holley carbs
427 435 HP 3-2 barrel Holley carbs L71
427 425 HP single Holley. This is the underrated L88 which was actually closer to 600 HP but was not advertised as such.

I remember when I was a kid my father had a VW bug, it was maybe a 70 or 72. They bought it brand new for something like $1500. My mother used to always praise them saying that if the engine went out, they could take it to a shop and have it replaced for $100. It only had an AM radio, and the heater was just a lever you pulled to let the heat in from the engine. I don't think it even had a fan. Well my mom's love for the VW bug ended when she was driving on the freeway in the rain and a bus passed her making the car lose control and spin. She had to have her front teeth replaced with dentures and after that we never owned another Bug, and my mom till her dying day never drove on the freeway again
