they are doing it because it makes them money... batteries are expensive and valuable, Toyota has had battery recovery system in place for year and they give bounties of $500 for each sent back to them

I wasn't mocking by posting who's the real cuprit in climate change. There are lots of evidence pointing driving EV will not have much impact unfortunately, pollution create by cars is much smaller than people think. I'm still Pro EV only because gas is expensive but I already know driving EV will not reverse climate change if ever. I'm a cheap bastard just want to drive for free by charging at work.

have no issue with recycling batteries, but it's more about saving money than saving the planet.

Great post.
Tesla mission statement is about accelerating the world's transition to sustainable energy. This is one way they can do it even if it only helps a little. If it helps economically, its another benefit but its inline with what they are trying to accomplish.

Mission statements do not mean anything, Tesla's only mission is to make money, and the only way they will recycle batteries is if it is profitable. Knowing Musk, he'll scam investors and government subsidies to make it profitable.

You're confusing Tesla with Nikola Motors.

I'm not confusing anything, Musk is the master scammer, others are just runners up.

You're saying Tesla investors are unhappy? Haha. If you bought Nikola stock 1 year ago you are down 4x if you bought Tesla 1 year ago you're up 2.5x. Also look up which CEO is going to prison.

No matter what anyone says, this does help with the environment. Recycling always is better than mining. Can't argue with that fact (well you can but would sound pretty dumb doing it).

Since EVs will become the norm, any progress in this area is welcome. Won't shed a tear when IcE goes away.

In other news, musk is about to test launch the largest rocket ever made.

i don't think anyone thinks recycling is a bad thing, whatever the motivations.

Since EVs will become the norm, any progress in this area is welcome. Won't shed a tear when IcE goes away.
I expect we'll all be dead before anyone might shed that tear.

Fascinating stuff. 92% recovery for the powerplant which is in use with multiple vehicles.

What is the recycling recovery rate for combustion engines? We have a lot more parts involved and different metal types.

Good question. Iron and aluminum is easy to recycle especially aluminum. About 50% of iron and steel is recycled, the % specifically related to cars not sure. Suppose 95% of materials in an ICE car and BEV were recycled the EV still easily wins because it can (and is increasingly) run on clean energy. A petrol car will never be clean.
