I was just being facetious as I've read a lot of posts over and over again from the EV advocates (NOT) about how much of a pain it is.

Yeah, that would get on my nerves. And my wife already said she isn't dealing with all that plugging and unplugging and trying to figure out all the range math. She loves her hybrid though.

Savagegeese review of the Volvo C40 Recharge. This is shared with the Polestar 2 platform with a Volvo interior and some cosmetic differences. Is it worth the almost $10K premium over a Polestar 2? Not in my opinion. Not only is it pricier, but has less range. Good review nonetheless

interesting review. is the c40 still $20k more than a polestar 2 today? if so then yes, i don't see the value add.
but perhaps volvo is just pricing the c40 based on a) the strength of the volvo brand vs polestar, and b) knowing the cost of everything skyrocketing, they're factoring that in now rather than constant price increases.

also, i checked locally and the only polestar 2 available (a long range, dual motor, awd) is 59,300 (before tax credit).

on volvo's site, it shows a c40 (loaded) is 58,845.

so i guess i'm not seeing a $20k difference.

I paid out the door $53k including tax and license plus tax credit. I haven't tried to price one out recently, but a similar C40 would be at least $10k more from the last time I looked at it. Plus I'm not sure if you can buy the C40 online like the Polestar, but I haven't verified that

BTW, $20k was a typo. I corrected it in the post

Here is a base 2022 Polestar 2 Long Range Dual Motor AWD MSRP Pre Tax Credit:

Base 2022 Volvo C40 Recharge Dual Motor AWD MSRP Pre Tax credits:

The difference between the two builds is the C40 has the 20" tires while the P2 has the 19". There is also a slight difference in HP, with the C40 having 404hp and the P2 having 408hp. C40 has a 75 kWh battery while the P2 has a 78 kWh battery. Lastly, C40 has 225 mile range and the P2 has 260 miles of range. For the $6,545 difference, slightly better HP and range, I would buy the Polestar 2

For clarification both battery sizes are the same 78 kWh. The Polestar 2 does offer smaller size.

similar builds yield a cheaper price for C40.
The C40 really has no options to add when building. Also does not offer leather. So I do not consider it more luxurious than the Polestar 2.
Polestar 2 has a larger infotainment screen as well. Just my opinion.
The C40 is more expensive than the CX40 obviously, just like any coupefied SUV.

This was a quick build for C40.

This was a build with optional leather and pilot and plus packs (minus performance pack) like my Launch Edition. Both with optional white paint which costs double for Polestar.

Without leather option deduct 4K. Polestar 2 still more expensive.

You can get a stripped down version of the Polestar 2 (without pilot and plus packs) but then you’ll be missing many things that come with the C40, so you can’t compare a base Polestar2 and a base C40.
So best comparison would be between C40 and Polestar 2 with pilot and plus packs. Just my thoughts.

Actually you are correct. I was comparing a base P2 with a base C40, which has a lot more options already included. But I'm glad you can get a base P2 because that's pretty much what I wanted (this is a commuter car), I'm not really missing the other features except I do sometimes wish I did get the Pilot pack. If I was ordering a 2023 today, I would probably get the Performance Pack because now you get the extra power included, I think it's 476 HP. It did say the C40 had a 75 kWh battery in the config...maybe that's what they make available?

Default Polestar 2 'Beast' experiment becomes BST Edition 270

It has more power and a lower ride height, but only 47 will make it to North America

Polestar will offer an amped-up 2 later this year dubbed the BST Edition 270 in a nod to the experimental "Beast" that the company first hinted at back at Goodwood in 2021. Packing extra power, a lowered suspension, some chassis tweaks and signature visuals, this ultra-limited edition (just 270, as implied by the name) will certainly be coveted by driving enthusiasts who have been enraptured by Polestar's EV.

The company's engineers managed to coax another 68 horsepower and 16 lb-ft of torque from the Polestar 2's electric powertrain, which retains the standard car's 78 kWh battery pack. The BST Edition 270 was lowered 25 mm (almost exactly 1 inch) and fitted with a unique set of Öhlins 2-way adjustable dampers. The springs are 20% stiffer and a front strut bar was mounted for additional rigidity. The Polestar 2 Performance package's four-piston Brembo brakes remain, but the tires were swapped for a set of Pirelli P Zeros in 245/35R21 to fit the BST's unique 21-inch wheels.

"We had a great reaction to the specially modified Polestar 2 we showed at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in 2021, and the response made it clear – we should create a version like that for production," said Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath in the company's official announcement.

The BST Edition 270 is not quite as gnarly as the car Polestar ran at Goodwood (that one had three-way dampers and much stiffer springs for the hill climb) but that just means there's more headroom for future modifications — especially since Polestar's CEO says the company wants to "flex its muscles and explore opportunities."

There are only two finishes available — "Thunder" or "Snow" — and the interior is offered only in Charcoal WeaveTech. The matte black graphic shown in photos here is an available option, as is a Battleship Gray full-body satin wrap. The Swedish Gold highlights (calipers, dampers, valve caps, seatbelts) are unchanged from the standard car.

If there's any downside to the BST Edition 270, it's that pesky number at the end. Only 270 will be assembled, and they're to be split between the North American, Chinese and European markets. Polestar is promising that "up to" 47 units will be delivered here in North America, but obviously that's dependent on demand.
