Good question. According to PoleStar, the full technical explanation for the tunnel would be revealed later. They use a flat battery pack, so that's the not the reason
The Polestar 2 is based on the modular CMA platform shared with its ICE cousins. Its not a fully dedicated EV platform...that is one of the reasons its range isn't quite as good as the dedicated EVs. I hear the next iterations of Polestars are based on a full EV only platform.

It's riding on the CMA platform that is used by a bunch of ICE vehicles in Volvo and Geely's lineup. I'm assuming it must be doing duty as a structural element in the platform which is why it wasn't eliminated when the platform is used for an EV.

That makes sense since it's a modular platform. That is probably the technical explanation PoleStar mentioned they would reveal
Does your P2 come with kick sensor to open the trunk? Fine print in ordering shows it doesn’t come with the car due to chip shortage but can be retrofitted later.

No, they notified me it wouldn't be installed. They will install it once it becomes available
Actually, the Polestar 2 is built on an old platform that is shared with ICE vehicles and the tunnel does contain some of the batteries. The Polestar 3 will be built on a new platform that with not have a tunnel.
My previous Volvo S90 plug in hybrid also had this tunnel even though there was no physical connection from the gas motor to the rear wheels. It also contained the batteries.
@SW17LS , lots of hard plastics so this is probably not the car for you, unless you are taking the "minimalist" route for your first EV
Yeah I agree, I like the looks of the interior but I would definitely opt for the upgraded interior. Overall, I like the looks of the exterior and the interior.
I'm finally starting to get used to the firmer throttle pedal, it's a lot firmer than both my Lexus and Sienna's pedal. I'm guessing they make it firmer to keep you from shooting into the car in front of you! I'm definitely getting a lot of stares, people on the road are trying to figure out what it is. This morning I had to make a lane change to get to the left turn lane and quickly passed up a guy in a Civic who was going pretty fast. I think he was surprised how quickly I accelerated and he tried to keep up. In his mind he was probably saying "I'm not going to let this little crap CUV beat me". At the light he tried to show me who's boss, I don't think I've left anyone that far behind before...
