My Ford Ranger is closer to 2 MPG difference between 65 to 75/80. As they say, your mileage may vary.

TBH, I really don't notice that much of a difference in energy usage going 70 or 80 mph in either my Model Y or Polestar. I'm sure there is if I could see it in realtime, but looking at my overall averages, it generally never exceeds 28 kWh per 100 miles in the winter, and 27 kWh per 100 miles in the summer. But your R1S is also heavier, has a lot more power, and has bigger tires than my vehicles

The study the above link references reckons the economy hit from increasing speed from 70mph to 80mph ranges from 12.5% to 17.5% (across 74 vehicles tested)

Both of what you posted sounds about right. The faster you drive, the more you are fighting aero.

more relevant, just an anecdote not covering all cars, but my lc500 gets its best fuel economy on the highway by a long shot, near 30mpg at around 80mph. 10th gear (1500rpm) ftw.

So it appears that the claim from the launch event that Cybertruck can do a quarter mile run towing a 911 faster than a 911 can do the run isn't all it seems...

They didn't do a quarter mile run. They only did 1/8th of a mile runs, against what turned out to be a manual 911 which is not going to launch nearly as effectively as one with PDK, and basically assumed that if the Cybertruck was faster in an eighth of a mile run then it must also be faster in a quarter mile run. Most sensible people will have assumed the slowest possible 911 would be the one used for the run, but the failure to actually do a quarter mile run isn't a good look.

But Tesla fans will find an excuse. When Toyota advertised their hybrids as an electric vehicle, they grab their pitch forks, how dare they! Deceptive marketing! But when Tesla blatantly lies, they brush it off.

If they did, that's flat out deceptive in my book.

However, that pull in a 1/8 mile is still dang impressive to me.

They did. It was made during the launch event. There was talk at the time that it looked like a less than quarter mile run. A couple of days ago, the Engineering Explained channel did a detailed analysis on this, examining the footage quite carefully and determined that the claim was generally suspect. Wes Morrill, lead cybertruck engineer at Tesla, confirmed on X that the EE analysis was broadly correct. He said they could not do a quarter mile run because of concerns about tire safety over 80 mph and claimed they were able to make the claim they did by extrapolating from the best 1/8th mile times. That they used the slowest possible 911 was not a surprise, but the claim in general has other holes. It’s not the end of the world, but it is deceptive and false. From a marketing perspective, it did its job. More people saw and will remember the claim than will see or become aware of the rebuttal.
