I see what you did there.

I hope this isn't the start of Tesla becoming Apple esque, Tesla isn't exactly hurting for cash these days this feels greedy to me.

You could technically link this to the shortage. These are manufactured in either China or Taiwan, China being on lockdown right now and factories halted

Is your IS350 an econobox?

No, but neither is the Model 3, which is as much an econobox as a BMW M3. The tech that went into the screens alone is worth more than any fully loaded Corolla

LOL that's funny. Anyway, people who buy cars like Lambo's are not really worried about gas mileage. My dad's 1979 Buick Le Sabre got 12 MPG, 5MPG better than the Lambo! I remember when I was a kid it would cost us $5 or $6 for a fillup...full service!

‘I know. But when I saw $40,000….I almost fell off my office chair and almost landed on my cat

finally found a car that is ever so close to the size of the Tesla 3

That's why I said glorified. The model 3 is a cheap built car with some cool tech and an EV drivetrain.

And, no, there isn't $20k worth of screen "tech" in the Model 3.

I'm talking about the development costs including software, not the cost of an individual screen. There was actual thought put into it, unlike the Corollas tablet thing that looks like it was hammed into the dash. The drivetrain alone makes it way more than a econobox. It also handles well on the track due to the tuned suspension. The two cars are nothing alike

Well, yeah, I'm sure all the software and hardware development in the model 3 cost more than a "fully loaded corolla." And screens and software aren't that special anymore. Factor out the EV drivetrain, and nobody will care about it at all. It would be a Corolla competitor. Maybe Camry, since it is slightly bigger. Bland styling. Worse than the Corolla in build quality. A small boring appliance.

So, if you are willing to pay more than double for an EV drivetrain and fancy screen, another $500 for a charging cord is inconsequential. Prevents some waste.

I think Tesla is penny pinching too much. They had a 19% operating profit in their last earnings call which is multiples higher than any other manufacturer by a large margin. Basically, their price increases have exceeded the increase in their costs for now so either the future quarters will see alignment with cost increases or they are just fleecing the customer now since they can get away with it. As a shareholder, i'm ecstatic but as a customer, I'm a bit concerned that they are hurting their loyal customer base.
