Unacceptable actions on the part of the criminals. You just know those are getting resold for cheap since the unit can still be reinstalled.

It's best to keep these inside where it's a little harder to steal.

First, almost anything with copper in it, these days, is susceptible to theft. Just ask any plumber or plumbing-organization how many copper pipes/tubing they have had stolen. Second, I also blame the scrap-metal dealers that purchase this hardware from these thieves, knowing that it was most likely stolen. That, IMO, simply aids/abets and encourages crime.

i don't know if you watched the video, but they weren't taking the whole station, just cutting off the giant thick charging cables.

I just saw that, odd since I would have taken the whole unit. Even stupider....

Sad. Looked up that copper is at $4.73#. Sharia law for thieves is what crosses my mind.

I posted about this a few month ago, and exactly as I predicted, this will happen more and more once thieves catch onto this.

Sorry for my stupidity and ignorance but what does 'Sharia Law' have to do with this?

LOL I think you have to worry more about your catalytic converter being stolen, which is a much wider problem nationwide:

https://www.ktvu.com/news/catalytic-...ike-nationwide

Catalytic converters are a much higher value target than cooper wire from a charging station. The average theif makes anywhere from $100 to $300 per CAT. We have had charging stations all over the Bay area for a few years now, and I've never heard or seen one that had it's cables stolen. But I personally know dozens of people who had their catalytic converters stolen, including several of my neighbors, relatives, friends and co-workers. Replacing a CAT: $1200 to $3000. Replacing a charging cable: $100 to $400. LMAO LOL

Maybe where you live, here people just drop in a generic if at al if it even happens. Theft like that is more common in large cities

True it happens more in big cities, but it's still a nationwide issue. A couple of people in our San Antonio Texas office had their CATS stolen, a friend in Houston had his stolen, and another relative in Arizona. It's a nationwide problem, and any stealing of EV cables dwarfs this problem. What, you make about $4 or $5 dollars on a charging cable but $100 on a CAT...thieves look for risk vs reward, and CATS are more reward. Here you can't just drop a generic CAT...it has to meet smog standards and be CARB compliant. My IS350 has two CATS, $1400 each. And because of the amount of CAT thefts, there is also a shortage, so your car is pretty much undrivable until they can be replaced

glad you find the brazen destruction of charging stations funny.

No, I didn't find either funny (call it more a frustrated laugh), I just think it's a one or two off non issue. Stealing charging cables for their cooper is high risk, low reward, so only the most desperately stupid criminals will partake in this type of activity. That or anti-EV crusaders
