The guy is actually a very experienced driver and modder. Owned several BMW's, a 1988 Porsche 930 Turbo and 2017 Evora 400 with 6 speed manual. Everything he owns is Manual Transmission, his wife's car is the only automatic. He actually canyon drives and tracks regularly. I met him once in 2020 when I was in SoCal visiting my family. I mean you can try to blame the driver all you want, at some point it's not the driver but the car being outclassed
Canyons aren't tracks. Easy for an EV to catch up to a sports car given the EV has summer tires and AWD with tons of grip and way more horsepower. I'm sure the Evora would smoke it in a tight track with a ton of turns. In every other non-track situation, the Model Y performance is probably faster.

I agree, on the track the Y is at a disadvantage, but it's not a track car LOL. I don't think anyone with any type of sanity would seriously buy a Y to track, it's essentially an SUV. Anyway his Evora is pretty awesome, especially when redlined!
good post! I have talked to few M owners who are now driving with model s or 3 and they love it. I still think GSF does very well in corners and its much more playful and fun compared to a model s. I have not driven a Plaid but if I like the model Y enough I will order a plaid. what I really want is a large electric SUV Rivian R1S looks great but its not to be delivered until 2023 end.

"Today took the Evora out with the wife, we hit Angeles Crest hwy. Evora 400 is a monster, built with these types of roads in mind. Coming behind me is a red Tesla. I know they are fast, but I'm thinking I'll teach this guy a little lesson. I slam it into 2nd and I'm hard throttle with a smile. No way that 5000 lbs beast can keep up on these curves. The smile faded and turned to wonder then curiosity as he kept right on my tail. Even on all the curves. I couldn't lose him, it at some points looked like I was in his way at the straightaways . After 20 minutes of this, I give him the thumbs up and gesture for him to pull over.
Turns out also behind him is a Hyundai, Ioniq 5 that was also keeping up. We chatted up, he had a Model Y performance, a fricking SUV! The cabin was a little simple, but laid out pretty well. The Hyundai had a better cabin and instrument layout. I was expecting the drivers would be techies, but they were enthusiasts just like me. The Tesla owner also had a BMW M340i with a 6 speed manual and an LS460 that his wife drives, but he plans to replace it with a Model S Plaid in 2 or 3 years. He said he rarely drives the M3 anymore!
Asked him about range, and he gets roughly 300 miles on a charge, he mentioned something about mostly charging to 80 percent unless he went on long trips. He said he charges majority at home, but uses Super chargers when going long distances. Said it takes 20 minutes to get from 10% to 80% and he's gone as far as Vegas with no problems. What was most impressive was he said it would cost him $20 to go from LA to Vegas!"

I really like both the Rivian truck and SUV, it's just that delivery dates are end of next year, and they are overpriced right now. Also being a new startup, I'd be a little worried. I'll keep an eye out over the next generation
- They are quick around town, but ok on the highway at high speed (100+ mph)
- Range is not as advertised if you have a lead foot like I do
- Handling is not as good as say as my prior X3M
- There are way too many Tesla's now so no longer exclusive, if you're into that- Initial Quality is hit or miss (my MYP still has some window closing issues, but my MYLR has no problems)
- if you DONT have a L2 charger at home, Superchargers are getting filled up fast these days and costs more
- Tech is so so (I actually miss I drive lol)
I still like my MYs but look forward to some good competition especially from the Germans ....

Have you looked at the BMW iX? I hear its pretty good. Also, Mercedes EQS SUV looks compelling.
bmw ix is about 80ish? Range is less? And charging network not as great as Tesla. Honestly I don’t like the looks of model y but it works. I need it to drive around town taking kids to their classes and just other quick runs

if they made a model Y with an optional gauge cluster like X or even better, HUD, i'd probably get one.
but the single screen in the middle with few physical controls... no thanks, and until they fix the steering, definitely no to a yoke on X/S.
i am with I need a cluster in front of me. There’s a few after market options for that and they look oem.

You get used to the speedo on the right quick. its actually aligned with your steering wheel in terms of height so an easy glance. The nice thing is that I drive with Waze on the browser...lets me check all the police activity around me
Keep in mind, the volume control is on the steering wheel and so is voice command so not everything has to be a virtual screen
good point. I really liked the controls on the wheel too. Even the tilt and other features are right on the wheel

Aftermarket has your back there are at least two gauge clusters available for the 3/Y.
Kia is supposed to be coming out with the EV9 in the next couple of years too. My pre-price change R1S should be arriving early next year
A friend of our families daughter works for Rivian out in Irvine, she has the R1T. It's a pretty big truck, really nice looking up close. I guess Rivian employees have first dibs. I saw it when I was on my trip in SoCal, unfortunately I met them at a funeral so it wasn't appropriate to ask more about it
